Betty Rude: Thank you for your prayers while I had a light case of COVID and my trip to Arizona and back. God is so good.

Marissa Goodwin: My parents are separating, which caught my brother and myself off guard. We are both grown, my brother is married, but it is still hard for us. We would love prayers for our family as we go through this together. This isn’t something my family has been willing to share, but we need those prayers.

Please continue to keep in prayer healing for all those still struggling physically, spiritually, and mentally. God loves you and you are so appreciated.

Steve & Hilda Stoll: Nancy Gowen is home from the hospital. Thank you for your prayers of God’s healing upon her! She and Dave are doing well.

Today I Choose Joy
An Overview of Philippians

Part 2:
“Because Joy is an Outlook I Control”

by Michael Lewis

November 7, 2021

2 Corinthians 11:24-27

16 times Paul mentions the “mind” or “our thoughts.”

What I cannot control must NOT control me.

Philippians 1:12-20

I cannot my circumstances, but I can control my outlook.

The Joy Outlook:

1. Paul didn’t focus on himself but on the mission of Christ.

“And I want you to know, my dear brothers and sisters, that everything that has happened to me here has helped to spread the gospel. For everyone here, including the whole palace guard, knows that I am in chains because of Christ. And because of my imprisonment, most of the believers here have gained confidence and boldly speak God’s message without fear.”  -Philippians 1:12-14

“But that doesn’t matter. Whether their motives are false or genuine, the message about Christ is being preached either way, so I rejoice.”  -Philippians 1:18

2. Paul’s “joy tank” required constant refilling.

“For I know that as you pray for me and the Spirit of Jesus Christ helps me, this will lead to my deliverance.”  -Philippians 1:19

No jail can keep prayers out and no locked door can keep the Holy Spirit from working within us.

Jesus doesn’t just rule over our chains, but He also rules through our chains.

We can find perspective through prayer and the Holy Spirit.

Qualities of the Holy Spirit for believers:

He is only for believers (JN 14:17)
He reminds believers of God’s Word and what Jesus said (JN 14:26).
He help convict the world of sin (JN 16:8).
He’s guide believers into truth (16:13).
The Spirit has no new message but only help us understand God’s Word (JN 16:13).

3. The opposite of joyfulness is NOT sadness.

The opposite of joy is shame and fear.

Philippians 1:20-21

“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by power of the Holy Spirit.”  -Romans 15:!3

Church Family Update…

We need to start getting an idea of how much interest we have among us about taking the Mission Trip this Spring…

  • The trip is March 2 through April 2.
  • The cost for each member of our congregation is $500 for airfare, room, and board. It’s an all-time great bargain.
  • No unaccompanied teen under the age of 14 may go. If a teen goes, age 14-18 their parents will have to designate in writing their permission for their teen to go on the trip, and the adult on the mission team who will function as their official chaperone.
  • Everyone has to have their own passport to travel outside our country. Being vaccinated is highly recommended. Having a Vaccination Card may well be required by the airlines and/or Nicaragua to gain entry without being required to quarantine, by the time we take the trip.
  • We will need a $50 nonrefundable deposit by December 5th so we can begin negotiating a group rate airfare.
  • BUT, now we need to get a general idea of the interest level as soon as possible. Please let us know your interest on your Communication Card or contact Michael.

Newby-ginnings is a non-profit organization helping Vets to make the transition from their military service back into civil life… We are trying to help these Vets in two ways this holiday season: First, we will have a drive to collect bedding. They particularly need blankets and queen size sheets. But any size bedding will be useful. This bedding drive will go until December 12.

Secondly, their organization will have dozens of Vets who need just a little help with providing for their families around Christmas. These vets make their requests, Newby-ginnings verifies their need, and then N-G provides their phone numbers so community volunteers may help them. For example, some might request some help in getting a turkey and putting together a holiday meal for their family. Perhaps another Vet needs a little help buying presents for their children. All you have to do is call the number provided and talk to them about how you might best help. There is a sign-up sheet in the lower lobby where you may volunteer to be of Christmas Assistance for Vets.

Thanks to Kirk Davidson for the excellent Bible class on Colossians… Artie Rude begins The Judges next Sunday.

Church Family Update…

Newby-ginnings is a non-profit organization helping Vets to make the transition from their military service back into civil life… We’ve helped this group on several occasions and they always speak highly of our generosity. We are going to try to help in two ways this holiday season: First, we will have a drive to collect bedding (see insert).

Our Frozen Fellowship has become very popular very quickly… Meals are flying out to those in need almost as soon as our members prepare them. So, please, if you can, prepare a casserole or some homemade soup (use the containers on the table in the lower lobby) and follow the simple guidelines. And please know you are providing a great blessing.

You can be in the picture for our next mission trip to Nicaragua… Are you praying about going? It’s doubtful you will ever have a better opportunity to take a mission trip. It will only cost $500 for each person (due to paying off our building); but, we will need to know if you want to go by the first Sunday in December. That same Sunday we will also need a $50 nonrefundable deposit so we can start working with the airlines to get the best deal possible.

Missionary communication… Be sure to look in your church box this Sunday. There is an update from Jade Cheromiah (written by her). She is one of three Cheromiah daughters we have helped support in her missionary schooling with AIM (Adventure In Missions).

Please stay for a brief celebration as we shred our Mortgage this morning… There will games and candy. Some cake and pie for the adults. Let’s just take a few minutes to enjoy the moment of being a “debt-free church”!

Tough Faith
Messages from Habakkuk

Part 3:
“An Even-Though Faith”

by Michael Lewis

October 24, 2021

PRINT MICHAEL’S HANDOUT

Scriptures: Habakkuk 3; 1 Chronicles 25:6; Job 1; Ephesians 5:18-20; Hebrews 2:12; Psalms 22; Psalms 42:6; Hebrews 4:12; Philippians 4:4.

Even-though Faith is the kind of faith where no matter how bad things are, we still have a vital  thirst  for God.

Big question: Do we love God for who  He   is ; or, do we love Him for what He  does .

An Even-Though Faith is:

1.  sustained  by worship.

2.  mindful  of the stories of God.

3.  rejoices  in who God is, not in what our circumstances  are .

Today, I choose to rejoice in the Lord because

Church Family Update…

Sharing Hearts meeting this coming Saturday, (Oct. 30) from 9-11am… Share prayers, share cards, share food, share needs…get the idea? Everyone is welcome to come together next Saturday morning for the purpose of encouraging each other. Encouraging each other requires that we first need to work at knowing each other.  No need to ever feel disconnected in the body of Christ. Come to Sharing Hearts with the purpose of encouraging others and you will be encouraged. If you have questions, Dan Dupey will welcome them. Everyone who attends is asked to bring a covered dish…to share.

Attend Sunday Bible Classes… Kirk Davidson is teaching a terrific Sunday morning adult Bible class on the book of Colossians, 9am, in our auditorium. Check it out.

Our Frozen Fellowship… It’s off to a good start! Thank you for your willingness to prepare a casserole, soup, and a frozen dessert to help those in need. We still have room in our freezer for more. Just pick-up the frozen food containers in the front of the church office. Marie Clarke will answer your questions. Thank you.

Remember our food pantry needs: Canned fruit, frozen vegetables, boxed meals, tuna helper, pasta sides, bread, juice, hot and cold cereal, chili, beef stew, spam, chunky soups, salad dressings, granola bars, cake mixes, muffins, etc.

Are you praying about Nicaragua? You will probably never have a better opportunity to take a mission trip. It will only cost $500 for each person (due to paying off our building); but, we will need to know if you want to go by the first Sunday in December. That same Sunday we also need a $50 nonrefundable deposit so we can start working with the airlines to get the best deal possible.

The invitation is a wonderful tradition we offer each Sunday morning… We always want to give everyone the opportunity to ask our shepherds to pray with them, help them with questions, or help with other needs. Traditionally, we have asked people to respond by coming forward; but, many have expressed they are uncomfortable with coming to the front (thinking people are staring at them). So, for awhile, our shepherds will stand in the back for people to go quietly to them with their needs. But we will still bring anything a person wants brought before the congregation.

dgyouth ministry…

Sundays with Job, 9am.

Weather Update
The national weather service is telling us there is a 70% chance of snow mixed with rain on October 31st. Now while the weather forecast may change, we want everyone to be able to plan ahead. So, we are moving everything to the small auditorium. We still need your candy!

Just treats and games…NO TRICKS…NO TRUNKS.
