Heaven

Part 3:
“Our Future Home
Is Also Our Present Help”

Colossians 3:1-4

How Heaven Helps Us:

1. It gives us a sense of alignment.

Heaven changes how we look at everything.

“Honor God while you live as strangers here on earth.”  -1Peter 1:17 (CEV)

“You should conduct yourselves with true reverence throughout the time of your temporary residence [on the earth, whether long or short].”  -1 Peter 1:17 (AMP)

If we live as strangers, then we are going to have some strange views.

Strange points of view:

a. Kingdom of Heaven people have a strange view about money.

“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”  -Matthew 6:19, 20

b. Kingdom people also have strange views about people.

“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”  -2 Corinthians 5:16

An example of investing in heaven: People, because they are eternal.

c. Kingdom people live by a strange ethic.

2. It helps us to ‘chill-out.’

How many things upset us that could past the eternity tests?

“For our present troubles are small and won’t last very long. Yet they produce for us a glory that vastly outweighs them and will last forever! So we don’t look at the troubles we can see now; rather, we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen. For the things we see now will soon be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever.”  -2 Corinthians 4:17-18

3. It helps us to hang on.

Knowing the next life is good, doesn’t mean we have to pretend this life is easy.

“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”  -John 16:33

“Yet what we suffer now is nothing compared to the glory he will reveal to us later. For all creation is waiting eagerly for that future day when God will reveal who his children really are.”  -Romans 8:18-19

“The time has come for my departure. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day – and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.”  -2 Timothy 4:6-8
