As you know cattle are special animals, they like being part of a herd. It gives them a sense of comfort and security that they don’t have when they are alone. Cattle prefer to do everything together, when one cow stands up and takes off to get a drink of water, the entire herd will follow. If a cow saunters off to graze at the far corner of the pasture, guess what? The entire herd will do the same; no one cow wants to be left behind and no cow wants to be different.
People tend to be like a herd of cows, I call it “running with the herd”. This herd instinct influences what people do and even the clothes they buy. We become very nervous about standing out from the crowd and desire to just blend in like everyone else.
As children of God, we should stand out from the rest of the world because we really are different from this world. Those of the world should be able to quickly see that something is different about us – that we belong to a different world. When that happens, we will have opened the door to blessing others with our faith. Let’s not be like a herd of cows! Be different!
Romans 12: 2 (The Message): “Don’t become so well adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You will be charged from the inside out.”
