A Message from Dale Herboldt

Heart Beats from the Ranch:

As the newest face among this congregation’s elders, let me begin by saying; keeping connected and sharing encouragement is a big part of my focus. I also treasure the importance placed on “unity” by writers of the new testament.

Col. 3:12-14  “Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourself with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity”

I say this knowing we are in an election year and our nation faces a real and growing problem of division and divisiveness that threatens the peace and stability of so many communities. It is heartbreaking to see this kind of behavior.

How easy it would be for us to join in the politics of polarization and find ourselves trying to shout down the other side. Political unrest by nature draws lines, makes distinctions and pronounces judgements it even encourages violence in some cases.

Jesus cuts across lines, breaks down barriers and offers grace! Jesus honored the dignity of each person whether he agreed with them or not. Anyone, even a half-breed with five husbands, or a thief on a cross was welcome to be a part of his kingdom. The gospel of Jesus was not primarily a political platform, it was however a platform to change hearts and offer hope. Jewish communities and gentiles alike were attracted to the way Christians cared for each other and devoted themselves to those in need, though they were individuals they acted as one, and that impressed honest hearts! Let us hold onto that mark of identity as we face such turbulent times of unrest and seek to preserve the unity of God’s people.
