HANDOUT
"Experiencing
Service"
by Alan McCormick, Jeff Shelton & Paul Swaim
Dalton Gardens Church of Christ
November 28, 2010
Read John 6:1-12
-
Why did Jesus take the time to feed
these people? What was it that touched his compassion
about their situation?
-
How often are you moved about the
hungry people in our world? When was the last time you
were moved to action? It may seem like an impossible
situation to fix, yet so was feeding 5000 on the shore
of Galilee.
-
How, as a church, can we make a
difference to the lost and hurting people in our world
who don’t have enough to eat, wear or often a place to
sleep?
-
Do you think this is important for us
to be involved in as a church?
-
Write a prayer asking God how you can
help the hurting in our world. Make sure and listen for
His answer.
Read Mark 1&2
-
Why is it that Jesus didn’t heal
everybody? In fact why didn’t and doesn’t Jesus do that
then and now? Wouldn’t it show His awesome power? Is it
not important to Him that people are relieved from their
hurting? Or is it that God has chosen us to be the
providers of needs for the poor?
-
We would ask that you go and read all
the passages in scripture about the poor and our
responsibility to them. It is astounding how much God
cares for them and how we have missed that message.
-
We need your input on how we should
go about this. We believe God has called us to be the
people who pass out the baskets of food to the hungry.
Won’t He give us more than we need and allow us to help
others?
-
Write a prayer after consideration
and pledge to God some ways that you will make a
difference in 2011 to the hurting and underprivileged.
Read Matthew 25:1-46
-
What do we do with this passage? What
does it mean? What are we supposed to do because of it?
Don’t we really want to be the best servants of Jesus
that we can be? Doesn’t God give us a hint on how we can
do that?
-
Write a prayer asking God to soften
your heart to the struggle of the hurting in our world.
