HANDOUT
"Experiencing
God"
by Alan McCormick, Jeff Shelton & Paul Swaim
Dalton Gardens Church of Christ
November 14, 2010
What does that mean? Is God something or someone to
be experienced? Maybe this is the first time you have considered this
concept! Experience carries with it the idea of using our senses, in
this case the senses of touch, hearing, and sight. What an awesome
thought that the God of heaven wants to touch my life in a way that I
can hear and see!
We, the 3 wise guys, want to explore that idea with
you this week: today in an informal teaching setting and the rest of
this week in some quiet times that we can do together. You don’t get
your traditional sermon outline to fill out today. Instead, we are
giving you some tools to chart a course to see God in action in
scripture and then to reflect on how He is doing that in your life. It
is our hope that you will read and reflect this week. Thanks for this
opportunity to grow with us over the next 3 weeks.
Experiencing God is like being hit by a
tank… When it happens, everyone can tell!
EXODUS 3
-
Often, when God reveals Himself to us
it is for a specific purpose. Why do you think God has
brought you to this exact place at this exact time in
your life?
-
What does He have in mind for you to
do?
-
What things are in the way of doing
this task? Are you afraid? Can God give you everything
you need to live powerfully for Him?
-
Offer up a prayer of thanksgiving
that you have been able to see God in your life. Ask Him
to make it clear to you what it is He wants for you to
do. Pray for courage to walk boldly in the world around
you.
ISAIAH 6:1-8
-
Go back to the day you realized that
Jesus came to be your Savior. What did you feel when you
realized you were lost without Him?
-
Describe how awesome you think God
is.
-
Since you have experienced God
through the cross, in what way will you offer yourself
up to Him in service?
-
Offer a prayer of praise to God for
your salvation.
JOHN 3:1-21
-
God so loved the world... Jesus
didn’t come to condemn but to save!
-
Do you realize that you are the Jesus
that God sends to the world today to preach good news?
How will you do that?
-
The cross is a bridge that spanned a
gap that we never could have spanned for ourselves. How
are you leading people to a bridge that has saved your
life from destruction?
-
Describe how thankful you are for the
price Jesus paid for you.
-
List one person you know who you will
do your best to lead to that bridge this year.
-
Offer a prayer asking God for wisdom
and direction as you help lead someone to a place of
hope and safety... a place of eternal life.
