Searching for Leaders
"I Just Want to be Like My Elder Brother"

The Apostle Paul provides two  character   portraits  of congregational leaders that  vary  slightly based upon the  nature  of the congregation.

1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:5-9

  • Timothy was in  Ephesus .

  • Titus was on  Crete .

  • The Christians on  Crete  did not have a copy of  1 Timothy  and the Christians in  Ephesus  did not have a copy of  Titus .

Two Observations:

1. Let’s appreciate these two  character   portraits  for what they are.

2. These are  general  guides and not meant to be  all-inclusive .

Here’s the implication:  We need to use these portaits as guidelines, while also applying our own collective wisdom about any special qualities a Dalton Gardens spiritual leader should have .

Core qualities...

1. The over-arching quality for an elder is a  deeply   spiritual  integrity.

2.  Relational  integrity.

3.  Personal  integrity.

4.  Doctrinal  integrity.

“Lead them by your good example.” 1 Peter 5:3 (NLT)
