Born New Two Principles about the nature of the church: 1. Mature Christians don’t agree on everything. 2. But despite that, WE DO have unifying beliefs that form our identity. Ephesians 4:3-6 Seven Principles about the nature of baptism: One: Baptism is not the work of man; it is the work of God consistent with God’s grace . Matthew 28:19, 20; Romans 6:3,4; Galatians 3:26; Col 2:12; Titus 3:4, 5 Two: Becoming a believer and being baptized are not two separate things, they are the same thing. John 3:5; John 3:16 Three: Because belief is central to being baptized, we don’t baptize babies because they cannot express their belief. Acts 16:31 Four: Biblical baptism requires immersion . Mark 1:10; Acts 8:39 Five: God chooses to forgive us and empower us through baptism. Acts 2:38; Matthew 26:28 Six: Who baptizes you is not as important as whose name you are baptized into. 1 Cor 1:13-15, 17; Romans 8:1; Galatians 2:17; Ephesians 1:12; 1 Thess 4:14 Seven: Baptism is not meant to be a divisive issue, but a unifying event.
