Born New Matthew 3:13-17 NOTICE: 1. Jesus wanted to be baptized . 2. Jesus was baptized to fulfill righteousness . Luke 12:50; Mark 10:38 3. The Father was thrilled at Jesus being baptized . Matthew 28:18-20 NOTICE: 1. Jesus commanded his followers to honor the meaning of his life, death and resurrection by going to make disciples by baptizing others INTO the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. 2. Consider this: In Matthew, the public ministry of Jesus begins and ends with baptism . Mark 16:15, 16 NOTICE: 1. Jesus makes a distinction between the good news and baptism . 2. Jesus says there is one response to the gospel that has two parts: believe and be baptized . John 3:16; John 3:5; John 3:18; John 6: 28, 29 3. Baptism is a grave step we take to proclaim our trust in the power of God to give us new life, just like God raised Jesus from the grave to new life. Colossians 2:11, 12; Romans 6:3, 4 SUMMARY... 1. They proclaim the gospel is true . 2. They proclaim they recognize salvation is a free gift . 3. They proclaim they are ready to live for Christ instead of self. |
