Luke 16:19: "...He spent his days in conspicuous consumption.”

THREE PASSAGES:

1 Peter 2:11 Principle One: The Christian should live a life of  self-denial  because we realize this world is not our home and our existence here is  temporary .

1 Thessalonians 4;11, 12 Principle Two: The Christian life is a life of  simplicity  that gains the respect of others, even outsiders.

1 Timothy 6:6, 7, 11 Principle Three: One of the true marks of a Christian is  contentment .

TWO LESSONS:

1. We cannot be  wise  in how we spend our resources until Jesus is first in our lives.

Proverbs 31 and Luke 16

2. We need to seek to keep ourselves  free  to invest in the cause of Christ and to help others through our  material  blessings.

1 John 3:17; 2 Cor. 9:6-7

SIX QUESTIONS:

1.  Why  am I buying this?

2. Will this purchase  limit  my capacity to  give  to the Lord and help others?

3. Is this purchase  consistent  with my financial status?

4. How will this purchase impact my  witness  for Christ?

5. Will this purchase enhance my  closest   relationships ?

6. Have I  waited  long enough to be thoughtful and prayerful about this purchase or am I behaving
 impulsively ?

John 6:35: “I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will never go hungry.”
