Romans 8

The Context of Romans:

1. There is  no   excuse  for not obeying God so mankind has  condemned  himself.

Romans 1:20; Romans 3:10

2. However, when we were  powerless  to save ourselves, Jesus stepped in to provide a  way   out .

Romans 5:6-9; 6:3; 6:5

3. But, even though we are  saved  from our past sins through the blood of Jesus, as Christians we  still  sin.

Romans 7:18; 25

4. Here is the problem: the more spiritual you are, the more  sensitive  you are to your own  imperfections .

ROMANS 8:1-4 Religion: “A set of rules that one must obey to please God.”

About Rules:

1. It provides a method of  measurement .

2. It can provide a sense of  superiority .

3. It can also provide an  excuse  for not thinking deeply.

“Christianity is trusting in the sufficiency of Jesus Christ to make us perfect in God’s sight. And in thanksgiving for what Christ does for us.”

We Have Been Forgiven...

1. It is a forgiveness that cannot be  earned .

2. It is a forgiveness that is  fair , not because of what it cost us, but because of what Jesus paid.

3. It is forgiveness that we should not  dishonor  by refusing to  trust  in our imperfections.
