Introduction: There has been a lot of change here
in Dalton Gardens. I sense God is working here. Let’s keep our focus,
seize the day, and God will bless us.
I. Big Transitions usher big opportunities
a. Moses to Joshua
Now it came about after the death of Moses the
servant of the LORD, that the LORD spoke to Joshua the son of
Nun, Moses' servant, saying, "Moses My servant is dead; now
therefore arise, cross this Jordan, you and all this people, to
the land which I am giving to them, to the sons of Israel. Every
place on which the sole of your foot treads, I have given it to
you, just as I spoke to Moses. From the wilderness and this
Lebanon, even as far as the great river, the river Euphrates,
all the land of the Hittites, and as far as the Great Sea toward
the setting of the sun will be your territory. No man will be
able to stand before you all the days of your life Just as I
have been with Moses, I will be with you; I will not fail you or
forsake you. Be strong and courageous, for you shall give this
people possession of the land which I swore to their fathers to
give them. Only be strong and very courageous; be careful to do
according to all the law which Moses My servant commanded you;
do not turn from it to the right or to the left, so that you may
have success wherever you go. This book of the law shall not
depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and
night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is
written in it; for then you will make your way prosperous, and
then you will have success. Have I not commanded you? Be strong
and courageous! Do not tremble or be dismayed, for the LORD your
God is with you wherever you go.” - Joshua 1:1-9 (NASB)
b. Jesus to the Apostles
Now He said to them, "These are My words which I
spoke to you while I was still with you, that all things which
are written about Me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and
the Psalms must be fulfilled." Then He opened their minds to
understand the Scriptures, and He said to them, "Thus it is
written, that the Christ would suffer and rise again from the
dead the third day, and that repentance for forgiveness of sins
would be proclaimed in His name to all the nations, beginning
from Jerusalem. You are witnesses of these things. And behold, I
am sending forth the promise of My Father upon you; but you are
to stay in the city until you are clothed with power from on
high." And He led them out as far as Bethany, and He lifted up
His hands and blessed them. While He was blessing them, He
parted from them and was carried up into heaven. And they, after
worshiping Him, returned to Jerusalem with great joy, and were
continually in the temple praising God. - Luke 24:44-53 (NASB)
c. The Apostles to us…
II. Let these be among our priorities each day:
a. Love one another
"This is My commandment, that you love one
another, just as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than
this, that one lay down his life for his friends.” - John
15:12-13 (NASB)
Now in Joppa there was a disciple named Tabitha
(which translated in Greek is called Dorcas); this woman was
abounding with deeds of kindness and charity which she
continually did. And it happened at that time that she fell sick
and died; and when they had washed her body, they laid it in an
upper room. Since Lydda was near Joppa, the disciples, having
heard that Peter was there, sent two men to him, imploring him,
"Do not delay in coming to us." So Peter arose and went with
them. When he arrived, they brought him into the upper room; and
all the widows stood beside him, weeping and showing all the
tunics and garments that Dorcas used to make while she was with
them. But Peter sent them all out and knelt down and prayed, and
turning to the body, he said, "Tabitha, arise." And she opened
her eyes, and when she saw Peter, she sat up. And he gave her
his hand and raised her up; and calling the saints and widows,
he presented her alive. It became known all over Joppa, and many
believed in the Lord. And Peter stayed many days in Joppa with a
tanner named Simon. - Acts 9:36-43 (NASB)
b. Be like David, awed by the creator
I will give thanks to You, for I am fearfully
and wonderfully made; - Psalm 139:14 (NASB)
Praise the LORD! Praise the name of the LORD;
Praise Him, O servants of the LORD, You who stand in the house
of the LORD, In the courts of the house of our God! Praise the
LORD, for the LORD is good; Sing praises to His name, for it is
lovely. For the LORD has chosen Jacob for Himself, Israel for
His own possession. For I know that the LORD is great And that
our Lord is above all gods. Whatever the LORD pleases, He does,
In heaven and in earth, in the seas and in all deeps. He causes
the vapors to ascend from the ends of the earth; Who makes
lightnings for the rain, Who brings forth the wind from His
treasuries. He smote the firstborn of Egypt, Both of man and
beast. He sent signs and wonders into your midst, O Egypt, Upon
Pharaoh and all his servants. He smote many nations And slew
mighty kings, Sihon, king of the Amorites, And Og, king of
Bashan, And all the kingdoms of Canaan; And He gave their land
as a heritage, A heritage to Israel His people. Your name, O
LORD, is everlasting, Your remembrance, O LORD, throughout all
generations. For the LORD will judge His people And will have
compassion on His servants. The idols of the nations are but
silver and gold, The work of man's hands. They have mouths, but
they do not speak; They have eyes, but they do not see; They
have ears, but they do not hear, Nor is there any breath at all
in their mouths. Those who make them will be like them, Yes,
everyone who trusts in them. O house of Israel, bless the LORD;
O house of Aaron, bless the LORD; O house of Levi, bless the
LORD; You who revere the LORD, bless the LORD. Blessed be the
LORD from Zion, Who dwells in Jerusalem. Praise the LORD! -
Psalm 135:1-21 (NASB)
c. Realize the importance of each day and how we
impact people’s lives
The mind of the wise is in the house of
mourning, while the mind of fools is in the house of pleasure. -
Ecclesiastes 7:4 (NASB)
Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast,
immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing
that your toil is not in vain in the Lord. - I Corinthians 15:58
(NASB)
d. Show honor to those who serve us, as example, our
elders
The elders who rule well are to be considered
worthy of double honor, especially those who work hard at
preaching and teaching. - I Timothy 5:17 (NASB)
e. Be ever vigilant in our Christian walks
Be of sober spirit, be on the alert Your
adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking
someone to devour. - I Peter 5:8 (NASB)
f. Be evangelistic
and in Him you have been made complete, and He
is the head over all rule and authority; and in Him you were
also circumcised with a circumcision made without hands, in the
removal of the body of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ;
having been buried with Him in baptism, in which you were also
raised up with Him through faith in the working of God, who
raised Him from the dead. When you were dead in your
transgressions and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He made you
alive together with Him, having forgiven us all our
transgressions, having canceled out the certificate of debt
consisting of decrees against us, which was hostile to us; and
He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross. -
Col 2:10-14 (NASB)
Conclusion: Our lives are extremely precious.
Let’s be the best stewards possible in how we live. Live with purpose as
Jesus did. Seize the day.
