Angel Questions Dave Shaner August 14, 2005

I. Being Enlightened About Angels ________________________.

For it seems to me that God has put us apostles on display at the end of the procession, like men condemned to die in the arena. We have been made a spectacle to the whole universe, to angels as well as to men. - I Corinthians 4:9

I charge you, in the sight of God & Christ Jesus & the elect angels, to keep these instructions without partiality, & to do nothing out of favoritism. - I Timothy 5:21

II. Difficult Questions and Difficult Passages:

A. Are there different kinds and classes of angels? - Eph.3:10

For by him all things were created: things in heaven & on earth, visible & invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him & for him. - Colossians 1:16

1. The archangel Michael - Jude 9; Daniel 10:13; Daniel 12:1

And there was war in heaven. Michael & his angels fought against the dragon, & the dragon & his angels fought back. - Revelation 12:7

For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel & with the trumpet call of God, & the dead in Christ will rise first. - I Thessalonians 4:16

2. Gabriel - Daniel 8:16; Daniel 9:21; Luke 1:19,26

3. Cherubim - Exodus 26:1,31; Psalm 99:1; Ezekiel 10

4. Seraphim - Isaiah 6:2,6

5. Living creatures - Revelation 4,5,6,7,8,14,15,19

B. Will we really judge angels?

Do you not know that the saints will judge the world? And if you are to judge the world, are you not competent to judge trivial cases? Do you not know that we will judge angels? How much more the things of this life! - I Corinthians 6:2-3

C. What do angels have to do with women covering their heads?

For this reason, & because of the angels, the woman ought to have a sign of authority on her head. - I Corinthians 11:10

D. Do we have guardian angels?

See that you do not look down on one of these little ones. For I tell you that their angels in heaven always see the face of my Father in heaven. - Matthew 18:10

Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some people have entertained angels without knowing it. - Hebrews 13:2

E. Do angels still appear among us?

Are not all angels ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation? - Hebrews 1:14

II. Being encouraged about angels ________________________.

When the servant of the man of God got up and went out early the next morning, an army with horses and chariots had surrounded the city. "Oh, my lord, what shall we do?" the servant asked. "Don't be afraid," the prophet answered. "Those who are with us are more than those who are with them." - II Kings 6:15-16
