All About God

Dave Shaner

April 3, 2005

Introduction:  A lot of people live their lives for no real good reason. What are we made for? Until you know, life won't make much sense.

I. Life's a maze ________________________.

A. Scriptures:

I have seen all the things that are done under the sun; all of them are meaningless, a chasing after the wind. - Ecclesiastes 1:14

For by him all things were created: things in heaven & on earth, visible & invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him & for him. - Colossians 1:16

It's in Christ that we find out who we are and what we are living for. Long before we first heard of Christ and got our hopes up, he had his eye on us, had designs on us for glorious living, part of the overall purpose he is working out in everything and everyone. - Ephesians 1:11-12 (The Message)

"everyone who is called by my name, whom I created for my glory, whom I formed and made." - Isaiah 43:7

B. We were designed for the purpose of being all about God.

II. We were made to reveal the ______________ of God.

A. Scriptures:

The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. - Psalms 19:1

So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God. - I Corinthians 10:31

although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile & their foolish hearts were darkened. - Romans 1:2

all have sinned & fall short of the glory of God, - Romans 3:23

Do not offer the parts of your body to sin, as instruments of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God, as those who have been brought from death to life; & offer the parts of your body to him as instruments of righteousness. - Romans 6:13

B. Our purpose is to make God look good.

C. Does God exist to make much of me or do I exist to make much of God?

D. Which path did Jesus choose?

I have brought you glory on earth by completing the work you gave me to do. - John 17:4

III. It will make everything ____________________.

A. It can change your attitude about work, recreation habits, etc.

B. Always ask yourself, "Can God get any applause from this?"

IV. What is all about God?

A. My ________________ is all about God.

And you also were included in Christ when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation. Having believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession — to the praise of his glory. - Ephesians 1:13-14

B. My ________________ is all about God.

You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven. - Matthew 5:14-16

“filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ–to the glory and praise of God.” - Philippians 1:11

C. My ________________ is all about God.

Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God's grace in its various forms. If anyone speaks, he should do it as one speaking the very words of God. If anyone serves, he should do it with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen. - I Peter 4:10-11

D. My ________________ is all about God.

When he heard this, Jesus said, “This sickness will not end in death. No, it is for God's glory so that God's Son may be glorified through it.” - John 11:4

“Now my heart is troubled, & what shall I say? ‘Father, save me from this hour’? No, it was for this very reason I came to this hour. Father, glorify your name!” - John 12:27-28

Conclusion: It is not a tragedy to die. It's a tragedy to never know why you lived. Don't purpose to live, live on purpose.
