Introduction: Have you ever been frustrated at your
inability to lead lost people to Christ? It is easy to get distracted from
God's intended purpose for us.
There are "only" two things you can't do in heaven: sin and
share your faith with others. Which of those two things did Christ leave you
here to do?
Text: Luke 5:1-7
One day as Jesus was standing by the Lake of Gennesaret,
with the people crowding around him and listening to the word of God, he
saw at the water's edge two boats, left there by the fishermen, who were
washing their nets. He got into one of the boats, the one belonging to
Simon, and asked him to put out a little from shore. Then he sat down
and taught the people from the boat. When he had finished speaking, he
said to Simon, "Put out into deep water, and let down the nets for a
catch." Simon answered, "Master, we've worked hard all night and haven't
caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets."
When they had done so, they caught such a large number of fish that
their nets began to break. So they signaled their partners in the other
boat to come and help them, and they came and filled both boats so full
that they began to sink.
I. You must ________________ to catch fish.
II. You must ________________ to catch fish.
III. You must ________________ to catch fish.
A. Matthew 28:18-20
Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in
heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make
disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father
and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey
everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to
the very end of the age."
B. Matthew 9:37-38
Then he said to his disciples, "The harvest is
plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest,
therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field."
C. Three fishing suggestions:
1. __________ your __________ with __________.
Those who sow in tears will reap with songs of
joy. He who goes out weeping, carrying seed to sow, will return
with songs of joy, carrying sheaves with him. - Psalm 126:5-6
2. __________ your __________ by __________.
"When you are brought before synagogues, rulers
and authorities, do not worry about how you will defend
yourselves or what you will say, for the Holy Spirit will teach
you at that time what you should say." - Luke 12:11-12
3. __________ your __________ with __________.
Very early in the morning, while it was still
dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary
place, where he prayed. - Mark 1:35
Simon has described to us how God at first
showed his concern by taking from the Gentiles a people for
himself. - Acts 15:14
IV. God's kingdom ____________ is a kingdom ____________.
A. Luke 14:23
"Then the master told his servant, 'Go out to the
roads and country lanes and make them come in, so that my house will
be full.'"
B. Jesus wants a full house.
C. Be praying for someone to invite to church and lead
to Christ.
