The Heart of All Things

Mike Reeves

August 29, 2004

“Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life.” - Prov. 4:23

The heart is central to life

I Sam. 16:7 “Man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”

Lk.12:34 “Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”

Prov. 3:5 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding.”

Psa.119:11 “Your word I have treasured in my heart, that I may not sin against you.”

Mt. 15:8 “These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me.”

Reason and Emotion

The mind receives and processes information

The heart knows and wrestles with realities

The mind deals with abstractions

Emotions are the voice of the heart

...the requirements of the law are written on their hearts, their consciences also bearing witness. - Rom.2:15

Heb. 10:25 ... having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience.

Prov. 23:7 “As a man thinks in his heart, so is he.”

Heb. 4:12 “...judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.”

Rom. 10: 9-10 “If you confess with your mouth, Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified.”

Saving faith comes from the heart!

“For this people’s heart has become calloused; they hardly hear with their ears, and they have closed their eyes. Otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts and turn, and I would heal them.”
Mt. 13:15

“Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not’”......... ...............“I never knew you!” Mt. 7:22-23

“You will find me,” God says, “when you seek me with all your heart.” Jer. 29:13

*To find God you must look with all your heart

*To remain with God you must hold on with your heart

*To hear his voice you must listen with your heart

*To love him you must love with all your heart

*You cannot be the person God meant you to be, or have the life he meant you to have, unless you live from the heart.

Without your heart .....

....you cannot have love

....you cannot have faith

....you cannot find the work God has for you to do

....Without your heart, you cannot have life

Ezekiel 36:26-27 “I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws.”

Have you given Jesus your heart?
