"The harvest is past, the summer has ended, and we are not saved." Since my
people are crushed, I am crushed; I mourn, and horror grips me. Is there no
balm in Gilead? Is there no physician there? Why then is there no healing
for the wound of my people? - Jeremiah 8:20-22
I. Activity does not equal accomplishment.
They tie up heavy loads and put them on men's shoulders,
but they themselves are not willing to lift a finger to move them. -
Matthew 23:2-4
"Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you
hypocrites! You travel over land and sea to win a single convert, and when
he becomes one, you make him twice as much a son of hell as you are." -
Matthew 23:15
"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I
will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am
gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my
yoke is easy and my burden is light." - Matthew 11:28-30
Brothers, my heart's desire and prayer to God for the
Israelites is that they may be saved. For I can testify about them that
they are zealous for God, but their zeal is not based on knowledge. -
Romans 10:1-2
This is what the LORD says: "Let not the wise man boast of
his wisdom or the strong man boast of his strength or the rich man boast
of his riches, but let him who boasts boast about this: that he
understands and knows me, that I am the LORD , who exercises kindness,
justice and righteousness on earth, for in these I delight," declares the
LORD. - Jeremiah 9:23-24
Where there is no vision, the people perish. - Proverbs
29:18 (KJV)
II. The Wounded Heart of God - Jeremiah 8:21
Since my people are crushed, I am crushed; I mourn, and
horror grips me.
III. The Question? Jeremiah 8:22
Is there no balm in Gilead? Is there no physician there?
Why then is there no healing for the wound of my people?
IV. Application
A. It is not enough to talk about the missed harvest.
B. The church isn't just a hospital; it’s an army.
C. By ourselves, we are weak...but with God we are not.
D. Review your priorities often.
