Sunday Sermon

I Am Persuaded

Mike Reeves

February 29, 2004

Introduction: As Christians we can live in the freedom of knowing that God is quite capable of safekeeping everything we commit to Him. We need not give a second thought about whether He will succeed. Belief in whom? Until which day? Keep what?

For I know whom I have believed and am persuaded that He is able to keep what I have committed to Him until that Day. - 2 Timothy 1:12

I. Let's check our confidence level today.

A. "For I know whom I have believed."

  • We don't doubt it.

  • We don't question it.

  • We don't re-evaluate it.

B. Who is the "who"?

C. "Until that Day."

D. What will God keep for us?

II. What things should we commit to God?

1. Our salvation

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. - John 3:16

2. The plan for our life

Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is--his good, pleasing and perfect will. - Romans 12:2

3. Our burdens

Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. - I Peter 5:7

4. Our treasures

Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. - Matthew 6:19

But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. - Matthew 6:20

Conclusion: We have a choice to keep and control these things ourselves, or hand them over to the King of the Universe for safeguarding. God is more than capable of keeping and sustaining our salvation, plan for life, burdens and treasures. We just have to choose to trust Him, instead of ourselves.
