Introduction: Thanksgiving should be one of the most
natural, most appreciated and most cherished of days for those who know
Christ Jesus as our Savior. This attitude should permeate the Christian
every day.
I Thessalonians 5:16-18
Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all
circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.
Text: Psalm 116
I. ________ ____________
I love the LORD, for he heard my voice; he heard my cry for
mercy. Because he turned his ear to me, I will call on him as long as I
live. The cords of death entangled me, the anguish of the grave came upon
me; I was overcome by trouble and sorrow. Then I called on the name of the
LORD: "O LORD, save me!" The LORD is gracious and righteous; our God is full
of compassion. The LORD protects the simplehearted; when I was in great
need, he saved me. Be at rest once more, O my soul, for the LORD has been
good to you. - Psalm 116:1-7
A. Colossians 3:15
Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as
members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.
B. _______________ is a sin that led men away from God.
1. Romans 1:21
For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as
God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their
foolish hearts were darkened.
2. II Timothy 3:1-2
But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last
days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud,
abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy
II. ________ ____________
For you, O LORD, have delivered my soul from death, my eyes
from tears, my feet from stumbling, that I may walk before the LORD in the
land of the living. I believed; therefore I said, "I am greatly afflicted."
And in my dismay I said, "All men are liars." How can I repay the LORD for
all his goodness to me? I will lift up the cup of salvation and call on the
name of the LORD. I will fulfill my vows to the LORD in the presence of all
his people. - Psalm 116:8-14
A. Our lives need to reflect God.
In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they
may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven. - Matthew
5:16
As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life
worthy of the calling you have received. - Ephesians 4:1
Whatever happens, conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of
the gospel of Christ. Then, whether I come and see you or only hear about
you in my absence, I will know that you stand firm in one spirit, contending
as one man for the faith of the gospel - Philippians 1:27
Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to
offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God--this is
your spiritual act of worship. - Romans 12:1
B. Thanksgiving, to be real, should lead to __________.
III. ________ ___________
Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his
saints. O LORD, truly I am your servant; I am your servant, the son of your
maidservant; you have freed me from my chains. I will sacrifice a thank
offering to you and call on the name of the LORD. I will fulfill my vows to
the LORD in the presence of all his people, in the courts of the house of
the LORD--in your midst, O Jerusalem. Praise the LORD. - Psalm
116:15-19
And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in
the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
- Colossians 3:17
A. Express your gratitude to __________.
1. In prayer
2. In public
I will give you thanks in the great assembly; among throngs
of people I will praise you. - Psalm 35:18
B. Express your gratitude to ____________.
C. Expressing gratitude _____________ others.
And we know that in all things God works for the good of
those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.
- Romans 8:28
Conclusion: Psalm 40:5
Many, O LORD my God, are the wonders you have done. The
things you planned for us no one can recount to you; were I to speak and
tell of them, they would be too many to declare.
