Introduction: the Lord's Supper is a time of thanksgiving. Is it possible
to become calloused to what it really means? It was a memorial meal that we
celebrate every Sunday.
I. Why Sunday?
A. Because of _______________ events
On the Lord's Day I was in the Spirit, and I heard behind me a loud voice
like a trumpet - Revelation 1:10
B. The _______________ of the early church
On the first day of the week we came together to break bread. Paul spoke to
the people and, because he intended to leave the next day, kept on talking until
midnight. - Acts 20:7
On the first day of every week, each one of you should set aside a sum of
money in keeping with his income, saving it up, so that when I come no
collections will have to be made. - I Corinthians 16:2
For this reason I am sending to you Timothy, my son whom I love, who is
faithful in the Lord. He will remind you of my way of life in Christ Jesus,
which agrees with what I teach everywhere in every church. - I Corinthians
4:17
C. _______________ significance
D. To preserve the ____________ of the ____________
1. The Lord's Supper is not just a ritual to be fulfilled, but a celebration to
be enjoyed.
2. Sunday is the day Jesus was raised from the dead.
II. What is the Lord's Supper all about?
A. Gives thanks for the _______________ nature of salvation.
I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in
me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me
and gave himself for me. - Galatians 2:20
B. Reminds us of the _______________ nature of our faith.
Because there is one loaf, we, who are many, are one body, for we all partake
of the one loaf. - I Corinthians 10:17
C. Gives thanks for the _______________ nature of his love.
You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died
for the ungodly. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous man, though for a
good man someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates his own love
for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. - Romans 5:6-8
He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all--how will he not
also, along with him, graciously give us all things? - Romans 8:32
Conclusion: This is a meal hosted for us by Jesus. It is about the grace
that has invited us into God's house and to His table. It's about being part of
the family of God. This meal is only for those who have been cleansed by the
blood of Jesus.
