Introduction: Why is it so hard for us to see ourselves as we really are?
Our enemy seeks to blind us to who we really are. Who you are determines what
you do. We have an enemy whose strategy is to get us to get the wrong view of
ourselves. Satan is the great accuser.
I. Satan accuses us:
A. ...when we sin
B. ...when we suffer
Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you
may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.
- Ephesians 6:13
II. When the accusations come:
A. Hold up the cross of Christ
Then I heard a loud voice in heaven say: "Now have come the salvation and the
power and the kingdom of our God, and the authority of his Christ. For the
accuser of our brothers, who accuses them before our God day and night, has been
hurled down. They overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their
testimony; they did not love their lives so much as to shrink from death. -
Revelation 12:10-11
When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your sinful nature,
God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins, having canceled the
written code, with its regulations, that was against us and that stood opposed
to us; he took it away, nailing it to the cross. And having disarmed the powers
and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the
cross. - Colossians 2:13-15
B. Hold on to your new identity
Or don't you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were
baptized into his death? We were therefore buried with him through baptism into
death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory
of the Father, we too may live a new life. - Romans 6:3-4
But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive
with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions--it is by grace you have
been saved. And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the
heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, - Ephesians 2:4-6
C. Hold to a renewed mind
Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by
the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's
will is--his good, pleasing and perfect will. - Romans 12:2
You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old
self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the
attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in
true righteousness and holiness. - Ephesians 4:22-24
Conclusion: When you do these three things, you can hold on to God who
has already decided to hold on to you.
