This is War

Dave Shaner

July 21, 2002

Introduction: Military language is used as a common theme to describe our Christian walk. If you are going to be in a war, you must know your enemy, his strengths, and his size.

II Timothy 2:3-4

Christians are like soldiers with Jesus as our commanding officer. We must not get distracted or our mission will be sidetracked.

Basic training principles:

I. The __________ against darkness has been declared by the __________.

A. Genesis 3:14
B. I John 3:8

II. The __________ of darkness has been decided at the __________.

A. Colossians 2:13-15
B. Hebrews 2:14-15
C. Joshua 6:2
D. Revelation 12:7-12

III. The __________ of darkness can be defensed by the __________.

A. Unbelievers cannot survive the onslaughts of the devil.
B. James 4:7
C. We must go on the offensive and drive hell back.

IV. The __________ of darkness must be delivered through the __________.

A. Matthew 16:18
B. Acts 26:16-18
C. We are on a search and rescue mission.

Conclusion: The war has already been decided. The God of heaven has won, but battles are still to be fought. The last picture we have of Jesus in Revelation 19 has Jesus on a horse, coming to make war. It is and was the war to end all wars.
