Learning to Serve

Introduction: Acts 6:16

The Stephen Ministry is a people helper ministry. It equips Christians to provide confidential and distinctively Christian one-on-one care to those with varying needs. At the center of the ministry is a servant heart.

Text: Mark 10:35-45

What does it mean to be a servant?

I. Servant - God's highest rank.

A. Ephesians 5:21
B. Matthew 12:25
C. Luke 22:24
D. When you know who you are, service comes easy.
E. It's one thing to act like a servant, it's another thing to be a servant.
F. The Stephen Ministry is one way of making this happen.

II. How to tell if you are a servant follower:

A. How do you view those in leadership?
B. How do you react when someone disagrees with you?
C. How often have I admitted that I am wrong to others?
D. Do I keep my weaknesses to myself?
E. Do I grumble about people in authority?

Conclusion: There's always a risk in reaching out as a servant. Guard against the feeling of being hassled by others.
