Team Update

Help! The Kara Christian Academy needs to fill two (2) teaching slots for the 2007-08 school year. If you, or anyone you know, would like to teach three bright and energetic 2nd graders or their 3 younger, pre-school aged brothers, please contact Tracey Ries at btries@kabiyemission.org.

The summer is flying by here in Kara! It's hard to believe that the interns have been living and working among us for an entire month now. They are doing great, having survived last weeks 2 night village bonding experience, and everyone is looking forward to this weeks departure for a 12 day survey trip. Brett, David and Matt will be leading the 12 interns to Burkina Faso, Mali and then back to Togo to research people groups that are ripe for God's harvest and need a mission team. Please pray for everyone's safety as we travel, for the wives and children back in Kara, and for God to reveal his plans for the future of His mission is West Africa!

The work among the Kabiye continues to be blessed. We have multiple service projects going, encouraging times of teaching and discipling Kabiye Christians, and researching areas for new evangelism in the coming weeks and months. Please pray for our team as we work for the Lord in expanding His Kingdom!

We are happy to inform all of our readers that the 2007 Together for Togo conference is a go! The Preston Road Church of Christ in Dallas (the Rieses sponsoring church) will be the host for this bi-annual event. The conference will be October 5-7. Be on the lookout for a special announcement with more details. We would like to thank Preston Road for stepping up to host this big event, and we would also like to ask you to pray for them as they plan and prepare.

The Kabiye Team News will be on a very irregular schedule for the month of July because of all of the travels the team will be making (the Rieses are also traveling to Kenya for 2 weeks). We will update when we can, so keep an eye on your inbox and please keep praying!

Reeves Family Update - kabiye4christ@yahoo.fr

Greetings from the Reeves family! We have been enjoying hosting Lacy, Lauren, Rachel and Amy in our home over the past week. They have been incredibly helpful in many ways. David visited the villages of Hade Te and Tchefengda this past week. David has also been helping a group of interns dig a latrine in the village of Kacade. They have 6 feet dug with 2 more feet to go next week. The latrine covers were completed with the help of the four guy interns earlier in the month. They hope to place them this next Tuesday. Becky taught a development lesson in Soumdina Po Wayi on clean drinking water in tandem with a lesson on the Samaritan Woman and Jesus wanting to give her living water. It is one of her favorite development lessons to teach and the ladies in Soumdina Po Wayi were impacted by it as deeply as those in other villages have been.

Our family has experienced a lot of emotional events over the past week. On Monday, one of the goats in our goat project passed away. She was pregnant and due to give birth sometime in the next few weeks. She died from a food obstruction and Hannah, especially, was very sad as she has spent countless hours with this goat trying to get it to trust her and eat out of her hand. (She had succeeded a week or two ago). The same afternoon our cat, Pickles, who had been missing for about 3 weeks returned! This eased the pain of our goat's death a bit. On Tuesday morning we were made aware of a shocking crime done to two sisters just down the street from our house. Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday were spent at the police station, in court, talking with numerous family members at our house and feeding, helping bathe, and watching these two girls along with their older brother. The interns staying with us were extremely helpful during all of these events. Check out Becky's blog for more details on their story (http://beckyreeves.wordpress.com).

Please pray for God to continue to be working powerfully here in Kara. Pray also for the three children in our neighborhood with whom we have had so much contact over the past week: Kamalao, MenteEsso, and Piyapele. Pray also for us to have wisdom to know how best to help them and for God to give them a family who will love them and bring them up to know Christ.

May God bless you! Love, The Reeves family
