Kabiye Team News
August 14, 2000

Dear Family and Friends,

Greetings in our Lord!  This newsletter is covering a broad expanse of time, mostly because we haven't been here in Albertville much of the last month.  Our parents and Dave's sister, Ashlin, and foster sister, Bobbie, came to visit us over the last three weeks and we had a wonderful time with them, traveling to Rome and Florence, Italy and Paris.  We were so encouraged by their visit and praise God for the wonderful families He has given both of us as they encourage us so much in Him.

Our final exams are over. This computer will be packed up tomorrow night to be taken in a moving van to Geneva with all of our teams' stuff that is going from Albertville to Togo.  The Millers and Kennells arrived in Togo this evening if all has gone as planned and we will arrive, along with the Rieses and Neals, on the evening of the 21st.  We plan to stay in Lome (the capital city) about a week  and then head up to Kara, where we will make our earthly home for the next 10 years.  Our first priority upon arrival in Kara will be to find and begin working on a house.  Please pray for the quickness of this process for us and for all of our teammates.  The quicker we can get settled, the sooner we can begin learning language and culture and the sooner we will have a place to bring the new baby home to.  During our first week in the country, we will be in the capital city spending a day and a half with the Tabligbo team in the south as they welcome us and we spend time in prayer for the Kabiye and for all of the people of Togo.  We will be taking care of government business, insurance for vehicles, registering with the embassy, etc., and visiting the hospital and doctor where we might come for the delivery of the baby.  We have two options for hospitals.  The other is an hour closer to our home, but there is no place to stay during the month we are expecting, so we may go to Lome if we are pleased with the doctor and facilities at the hospital there.

We are learning more French, still, everyday as we talk with people in stores and our landlords and faculty at the school, as we ask for the meaning of new words or the words in French for an idea we have in English.  We are communicating well and learning that we will always be learning more French upon the good foundation we have received here at the school in Albertville. Thank you for all of your prayers and for your love for us and the Kabiye as the time of being there is finally here!  God has been, and will continue to, prepare their hearts for the good news as He is preparing us to bring it to them.  You can continue to email us at this address until we get a new one in Kara.  We might be unreachable for a week or two, but will contact you as soon as we get internet access.  Please keep praying!  We've got to go and pack!!

In Our Savior's Love,
David, Becky, and Hannah
