Extraordinary Mercy is the fifth book written
by Dr. Lewis. His four previous works have been communication textbooks
used on university campuses. However, he describes this effort as “a
labor of love.” The book is arranged in 13 chapters, ideal for Bible
classes on a quarter schedule. Each chapter also includes a number of
discussion questions, making it useful for small group discussions. Or,
you may wish to just read and reflect on it in your personal devotional
time. Each chapter brings scriptures about God’s mercy to life through
the extraordinary ways people have found to “mess up” their lives and
discover the healing grace of God. The message: “No matter how bad it
is, there is always a way for God and His hope to break through.”
Dr.
Michael L. Lewis grew up in Iowa, but has also lived in Florida,
Nebraska, Oklahoma, Texas and Idaho. He and his wife, Carmen now live in
the beautiful mountains of Northern Idaho. He has a Ph.D. from the
University of Oklahoma, a Masters from the University of Nebraska, and
undergraduate degrees from Abilene Christian and York College. Michael
was Professor of Bible and Communication at Abilene Christian University
for a number of years before feeling called into the full-time preaching
ministry. He and Carmen are the proud parents of Samantha, Shane, and
Bradon Jack, plus two fantastic grandchildren. In his spare time, he
loves to be on the golf course, where he is admittedly “pretty
mediocre.” Michael is the preaching minister for the Dalton Gardens
Church of Christ in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.
