Slaying Giants in Your Life
By Ralph Crump

Part 33:Defeating the Giant of Resentment

Resentment is hard, cold anger that eats away at us. Maybe we’re still feeling an old insult nobody else even remembers. Or we’re feeling cheated because someone else got something we wanted - property, love, attention, praise or luck. Let’s look at the things we use to fuel our resentments.

  1. WHAT THEY DID TO US - The things people do to us that we think of as mean and thoughtless.
  2. WHAT THEY DIDN’T DO - The nice things people could do for us but don’t.
  3. WHEN THEY DIDN’T DO ENOUGH - The times we think others aren’t doing enough for us.

Ultimately, resentments hurt us more than anyone else. Peace of mind is impossible when we spend our time thinking about how terrible someone else is and how we’ve been hurt. When we are caught up in our resentments we cannot grow emotionally or spiritually. WE’RE STUCK IN THE PAST.

Some of the ways our resentments affect us:

  1. We cannot get our resentments out of our mind.
  2. Often we feel frustrated and angry much of the time.
  3. We feel sorry for ourselves and how we’ve suffered.
  4. Sometimes we focus so much on the person we resent that it’s hard to do more enjoyable things.
  5. We get irritable with other people, and our relationships with them suffer.

Forgiving is Spiritually Essential. Matt. 6:5, 14-15.

  1. Forgiving is a choice that must be made freely to have value.
  2. Forgiving means changing both our attitudes and our actions.
  3. Forgiving the past hurts helps us to live in the present.

Shepherd's Corner

God answers Prayers. Christians believe this although we don't fully understand it. Prayer is for mankind's benefit, and what a blessing it is knowing our Heavenly Father wants to hear from us. A loving God stands ready to respond to our needs 24 - 7. Scriptures are full of information directing humans into a purposeful prayer life, primarily for one another. And the Elders thank each one of you for the prayers offered up on behalf of our new pulpit minister Michael Lewis and his wife Carmen. They have arrived here safely and moved into their home. A heartfelt THANK YOU to all the members that showed up last Tuesday to help unload the moving trucks. The Lewis's were most appreciative and the elders want to also thank each one of you for making their arrival here a little more enjoyable. God did answer many prayers for their safe trip to North Idaho and getting settled in their newly purchased home.

The Dalton Gardens Church is now ready for a "Fresh Beginning". Next Sunday, August 13, will be a Day of Dedication. Dr. Lewis will be commissioned to the work of Pulpit Minister for this congregation and the church's facilities will be dedicated to the Lord's work. All members and special guests are invited to enjoy a barbeque/pot luck meal together. Our prayer is that all members will invite their family and friends to participate in this special day. Your presence will honor our Lord and be a blessing to one another. Please pray that God will find favor in our service and bless the Dalton Gardens Church Family.  - The Elders

WEEKLY BULLETIN

Slaying Giants In Your Life
(continued from page 1)
4. Forgiving means we must be willing to forgive not only others, but also ourselves. Forgiving also means acting. It won’t do much good just to say we forgive someone (or think it to ourselves) We’re going to quit bad-mouthing, criticizing, avoiding, or tensing up around this person. Instead, we will relearn how to appreciate this person and pray for them.

CLAIM THESE SCRIPTURES TO OVERCOME RESENTMENT:
1. Matt. 6:14-15, “If you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses”.
2. “Love...does not upset others. Love does not count up wrongs that have been done” I Cor. 13:5.
3. Eph. 1:7, “And be kind to one another, tenderhearted forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you”.
4. Prov. 10:12, “Love covers all offenses”

THINK ON THESE THINGS.

“Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a steadfast spirit within me.”
-Psalm 51:10

Teen Scene

Warren Brown had asked me a couple of weeks ago if I would prepare the thoughts for the offering during the month of August. As I began to run through some ideas I started thinking about teenagers in reference to the concept of giving. I re-member when I was a teen. I was broke all the time. But my parents had engraved on my mind the need to set aside something for God. I did my best to practice that as a teen. It wasn't always very much but it helped me to grow in that area.

How about teens today? Specifically our teens. Do you guys set aside some of your money for the Lord? I know that there are lots of ways to give and I'm proud of you all for your acts of service. But giving of your monetary blessings opens up your heart for some major growth. So next time you are tempted to spend that last few bucks on a Big Mac or a new CD, remember how much God has blessed you. You need to give to him as well.  -Scott

Tweeners Fun at the Slates
Tweeners please join the Slates at their beautiful lake house on August 26th, from 2 pm till they kick us out. Please bring food to share like, side dish, salad, dessert, or chips and dip. Hot dogs will be provided. Also bring towels, swim suits, life vest for the kids, and fishing equipment. (The Slates are ok if you show up earlier to get a head start on the fun, but you will have to bring your own sack lunch.)

Save the Date
On Sunday, August 20th there will be a baby shower for Martin and Kelly White’s soon to arrive baby boy.
