Slaying Giants in Your Life
By Ralph Crump

Part 32:Defeating the Giant of Failure

Turning Defeat into Success
Failure is just a bend in the road - not a dead end. Each of us has experienced “down times,” setbacks at work, in relationships, in our inner lives, times where nothing seems to go right. Most of us have also felt as if we’ve failed at times as well. But what is the difference between those who succeed and those who fail? The answer is simple: ATTITUDE. SUCCESS IS NEVER ENDING FAILURE. IS NEVER FINAL.

Failures are divided into those who thought and never did, and those who did and never thought. Failure is not necessarily missing the target, but aiming too low. Failure is not the worst thing in the world. The very worst is not to try.

Let’s look at success. Every church has all the success it prays for and pays for through dedicated commitment. “The secret of success is to never let down and never give up.” The dictionary is the only place where success comes before work. Even a woodpecker has discovered that the only way to success is to use one’s head. “Success in life ought to be determined, not by accumulations, but by contributions of your service, time and determination. Quitters never win and winners never quit.

WHAT ARE THE VERY BEST PRINCIPLES FOR SUCCESS? ONE IS HOW TO SLAY THE GIANT OF FAILURE.

  1. Follow Jesus Always, I Peter 2:21, Follow his spiritual values and steps for success.
  2. “Be strong in the Lord. Eph. 6:10-17.
  3. Make Christ pre-eminent (give Him total supremacy in your life) Col. 1:18.
  4. “Have the mind (attitude) of Christ. ‘Let this mind be in you which is in Jesus” Phil 2:5.

Shepherd's Corner

Praise God for answering prayers. And the Elders Praise God for each member of the Dalton Gardens "Church Family". We thank you for persevering this past year without a Pulpit Minister or full time Youth Minister. Many have stepped up to the plate and assisted this church family in so many different ways - and we thank you. Of primary importance has been our search for a full time Pulpit Minister. Dr. Michael Lewis has accepted that position and along with his wife Carmen, are moving here this week. Their house has closed and they are currently on the road, scheduled to arrive here on Tuesday, August 1. We are planning an unloading party at 5:30 PM and appreciate the help from those that are able. Please see George Wuest for instructions.

Michael's first Sunday in the pulpit will be on August 13. This congregation is inviting the community to participate in the days activities. The plan is for this congregation to dedicate our facilities to the work of the Lord and enjoy a barbeque/pot luck meal together after morning services. All members are encouraged to invite their family & friends and participate in this Day of Dedication. Your presence will honor our Lord and be a blessing to one another. Please pray for this congregation as we enjoy a "Fresh Beginning" in our service to God.  - The Elders

WEEKLY BULLETIN

Slaying Giants In Your Life
(continued from page 1)
5. Bear fruit for Christ to His glory John 15:5.
6. “Grow to the measure and stature of Christ” Eph. 4:13.
7. “Have all thoughts captive to the obedience of Christ” See 2 Cor. 10:5. Remember SUCCESS IS NEVER ENDING, FAILURE IS NEVER FINAL.

In Proverbs we find success priorities, Commit your work to the Lord and then your plans will succeed, Prov. 11:10. Give God glory for success. See Psa. 115:1. The God of heaven gives success. See Neh. 2:20. Seek first the Kingdom. See Matt. 6:33. SEEK THE LORD AND SUCCEED. See 2 Chron. 26:5.

The basic spiritual rules for success may be defined as follows: KNOW WHAT THE LORD WANTS. FIND OUT WHAT ATTITUDES AND VALUES HE REQUIRES OF YOU. ACT ON IT AND PERSEVERE. See 1 Cor. 15:58.

New LIFE Group

Teen Scene

Christianity, in it's purest form, is nothing more than seeing Jesus. Christian service, in it's purest form, is nothing more than imitating him who we see. To see his Majesty and to imitate him, that is the sum of Christianity.

Seems so simple doesn't it. But so many times we go through life with our eyes focused on some un-important and temporal thing. We spend our time looking for the answers to life in all the wrong places. Just think about how different your life would be if you made your first priority looking for Jesus. It's hard not to notice him and see His majesty if you only look for him. We see Him in the tender hug of a friend when we are down. We see Him in the service that others do. We see His hand in all creation and marvel at the beauty. I encourage all of you teens, and everyone else that might be reading this, take notice of Christ in your life. Seek Him, draw comfort from his presence, peace from his strength, and power from his truth. Once you have seen him, imitate him. One of the most humbling experiences you can have is to have someone tell you that they see Christ in your life. What if we all imitated Christ? Interesting idea isn't it.  -Scott

New Car Stuck In Red Tape
The new car we helped to purchase for missionaries, David and Becky Reeves, is being held in port by the Togolese government for required taxes. Trying to work this out with the African port officials has not been successful. They have refused to honor our non-profit tax status. $3700 of the $5000 required to free the car has been raised. Our help is needed to raise the remaining $1300. You may assist with this need by writing a check to the church here marked "African Mission," or writing a check to the Reeves' sponsoring congregation, the Richland church of Christ, and marking it "automobile tax." Let's help them get their much-need car out of customs.

Sew In Love:
We’ve taken a break for the summer months except for our monthly birthday luncheons. Regular weekly classes will resume September 12, 10:30 a.m. in the Youth Center. Even though we’re “on vacation” we still get calls for help. We work with a foster mother who recently received 3 boys so we delivered a backpack for each boy filled with a quilt and other goodies. We just delivered another one a few days ago.

We always need cotton fabric (solids and prints), quilt batting, and white thread. Our angel, Bea Phippen furnished us with a lot of backpacks which are almost gone. Sometimes Albertson’s or other grocers have these really cheap before school starts. Any and all help is appreciated. Call us or come to our class in September. We have Bible study from 10:30-12:00, then brown bag lunch and then a sewing session for those who can stay. You don’t have to sew to be part of the group! For more information or for any questions, please contact Betty Williams at 762-4485 or Betty Evans at 667-7064.
