Slaying Giants in Your Life
By Ralph Crump

Part 28:
Defeating the Giant of Prejudice

There is a pride of face and place just as there is a prejudice of race. Prejudice like pride, goeth before a fall. The word prejudice comes from the Latin prefix prae (before and judicium (judgment) and means a preconceived idea. Literally, this preconceived idea can either be favorable or unfavorable to the person or the subject. The gulf that exists between many groups often has had its origin in prejudice. Even those who are most prejudiced are seldom aware of the prejudices. John Locke, the English philosopher, once wrote, “Everyone is forward to complain of the prejudices that mislead other men and parties, as if he were free, and had none of his own. What now is the cure? No other but this, that every man should let alone others’ prejudices and examine his own”.

One of Christ’s greatest concern is to lead men to love each other and to treat each other as brethren, LET EACH OF US EXAMINE HIMSELF AND PLEDGE ANEW TO FOLLOW OUR LORD IN LOVING ALL MEN WITHOUT PREJUDICE. This includes the Negro, the Mexican, the Indian, the “foreigner” of any national or racial background. It also includes a love for the rich, the poor, the uneducated, the educated, the young, the old, and every other type of grouping of mankind. The battle against prejudice in each of our hearts is not won easily and quickly. HOWEVER IF WE WALK IN THE STEPS OF OUR LORD, LITTLE BY LITTLE WE CAN LOVE ALL MEN AS WE COME CLOSER AND CLOSER TO THE ATTITUDE EXEMPLIFIED IN OUR LORD WHEN HE DIED FOR ALL MANKIND.

Claim these Scriptures to destroy prejudice. FIRST, when Peter ( a Jew) got to the gathering of the people at the household of Cornelius (a Gentile) he began his Holy Spirit - guided sermon with the words, “Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons: but in every nation he that feareth him and worketh righteousness, is acceptable to him” Acts 10:34-35.

Second, Jesus said, the greatest commandment of all is “Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all they

INDEPENDENCE DAY - JULY 4th
On the fourth of July which we celebrate may we consider the following, “Let our object be our country, our whole country, And by the blessing of God may that country itself become a vast and splendid monument, not of oppression and terror, but of wisdom, of peace, and of liberty upon which the world may gaze with admiration forever” Daniel Webster

God Bless The U.S.A. was written by Lee Greenwood. He writes “If tomorrow all the things were gone I’d worked for all my life, And I had to start again with just my children and my wife, I’d thank my lucky stars to be living here today, ‘Cause the flag still stands for freedom and they can’t take that away.

I’m proud to be an American where at least I know I’m free, And I won’t forget the men who died who gave that right to me, And I gladly stand up next to you and defend her still today; ‘Cause there ain’t no doubt I love this land God bless the U.S.A. Think on these things. Are you willing to have strong patriot convictions like those who have died for our country?

-The elders

mind, and with all thy strength”. Jesus then stated the second commandment THOU SHALT LOVE THY NEIGHBOR AS THYSELF.” SO THE CHALLENGE IS TO PUT ASIDE OUR PREJUDICE AND PLEASE GOD BY BEING RECONCILED TO AND AT PEACE WITH HIS FELLOWMAN.

Teen Scene

Last week all of you teens, and all of you parents, received a flyer concerning the campout at Priest Lake. The plea was made to parents that we need some of you to go on this outing to help with transportation, cooking, etc. I requested to have 6 parents. As of this writing I have only one parent who has told me to include them in the weekend. I also applied a deadline for signups. That deadline is today. I have had several of you tell me that you are going but no one has actually signed up or paid the $15 cost.

Parents, if some of you don't step up to the plate and help out with this, the trip will be canceled. And teens, if you intend to go you need to get your name on the list and turn in your funds. As was said in the flyer, please don't let money make the decision whether you go or not. If you need help with the cost see me and we will work it out. We have a great weekend planned. It would be a shame to call it off. Please see me today if you can help!  -Scott
