Slaying Giants in Your Life
By Ralph Crump

Part 25:
Defeating the Giant of Fear of Aging

Life can become richer with age. “I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread” Psa. 37:25. A careful reading of the Psalms of David will show that his life became richer with age. To the faithful Christian life grows sweeter as the years go by, if the attitude and values are Christian. As the burdens and problems increase, there comes a corresponding increase in faith and hope and trust which enables us to think and to talk about our light afflictions which are but for a moment. See 2 Cor. 4:16-18. God keeps his trusting ones in perfect peace. See Isa. 26:3.

In writing his great poem, Rabbi Ben Ezra, Robert Browning began with these words, “Grow old along with me! The best is yet to be, The last of life, for which the first was made; Our times are in his hand Who saith, “A whole I planned, Youth shows but half; trust God: see all, nor be afraid!” The sentiment expressed in these words is a fine example of an appreciation of the providence of God; and any one who makes that the philosophy of his life will understand that “the best is yet to be.”

The Faithful Christian can CLAIM THESE FOLLOWING SCRIPTURES:
1) “The length of our days is seventy years or eighty, if we have the strength;… for they quickly pass, and we fly way.” Psa. 90:10 N.I.V.
2) “You do not know what will happen tomorrow. WHAT IS YOUR LIFE? You are a mist (vapor) that appears for a little while and then vanishes “. James 4:14
3) Job teaches us, “My days are swifter than a weaver’s shuttle and they come to an end.” Job 7
4) Samuel teaches us, our life is “like water spilled on the ground which cannot be recovered.” 2 Sam. 14:14
5) David “teaches us, to number our days aright, that we may gain a heart of wisdom” Psa. 90:12
6) “To resist the frigidity of old age one must combine the body, the mind and the heart - And to keep these in parallel vigor one must exercise, study, and love.” Bonstettin
7) “When you were born, you cried and the world rejoiced, live your life in such a way that when you die, the world will cry and you will rejoice!

Shepherd's Corner

There's a song that we have sung entitled, "The Family of God". In this song we sing: “I'm so glad I'm a part of the family of God; I've been washed in the fountain, Cleansed by his blood! Joint heirs with Jesus as we travel this sod, For I'm part of the family, the family of God. You will notice we say brother and sister 'round here, It's because we're a family and these folks are so near. When one has a heartache we all share the tears, And rejoice in each vict'ry in this family so dear.”

In I John 1:7 we read that "the blood of Jesus cleanses us", and that "we are to have fellowship with one another". Why? Because we are a family. In Galatians 3:26 - 4:7 we learn that we are adopted as God's sons through baptism. Romans 8:14-17 tells us that as his son's we are heirs, joint are fellow heirs with Jesus Christ, so that we may share in his suffering and his glory.

We are a family. God's family. As his family we are also members of Jesus' body. "And if one member suffers, all the members suffer with it; if one member is honored, all the members rejoice with it." (I Corinthians 12:26).

In the past few weeks we have witnessed that several of our high school seniors have been honored with their graduation, and we have rejoiced with them. Let's encourage them as they begin this new step in their lives. Isn't it great to be of the family?

-The elders

Teen Scene

Spiritual growth is about focus. Hebrews 12 says we are to look to Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith. That focus is essential. People who look to circum-stances for direction or inspiration find nothing to sustain them. But those who look to Jesus remain productive and growing. In my younger years as an athlete I remember coaches hollering "Keep your eye on the ball Rouse". It really doesn't matter if it's baseball, football, tennis, basketball, or golf. It's always the same, watch the ball. You can't hit the ball if you can't see it. You can't catch the ball if you don't keep your eye on it. You can't be a great athlete — no matter what sport you choose --without a great amount of focus. In the same way, keeping your eyes focused and fixed on Jesus Christ as the goal of your life will always make you a winner. And please remember--even suffering may be a part of that process. Waiting may also be a part of the process. You guys have been waiting a long time for a real youth minister. Just remember that this position will be filled when God is good and ready. Sometimes he seems to work too slow for us. Keep focused and wait on Him. You will not be disappointed!  -Scott Rouse

C.C.S. School News

"It Lives" by Dan Dupey

As we make the turn from the long and winding road, we realize, as we catch our breath that the school year has vanished. Yes, vanished, gone!

We enter another stage. It seems summer is lurking near. Even so, there is much to be done. The early morning gatherings each day with cheerful voices and often sleepy eyes will be placed on hold if only temporarily. Bringing God's word to the students daily will be missed. Singing praises each morning as a group of worshippers has pleased God. He loves to hear our voices. Prayers are special. A prayer form the heart opens the heart of others. We know that a prayer from a concerned and focused child brings happiness to God.

Some have asked, "What is happening with CCS? Will there be a school next year?" The school is alive and the vision is broad. We are thankful that God has blessed us with four, yes four (4) new school board members! This, of course, shows us the love that the Church truly does have for this special mission.

Remember, we are always looking for volunteers to teach, to listen, to tutor in a myriad of areas. Please contact us if you are interested. We do plan to have a booth for the VBS program and also a booth at the Fair this year. If you would like to help out in either of these areas, let us know also.

"Rejoice in the Lord always, and again I say Rejoice" Phil 4:4 is a special scripture for us. This reminds us of the many blessings we have received by simply touching the life of a child for God! Keep CCS in your prayers as we look to the future!
