Slaying Giants in Your Life
By Ralph Crump

Part 18: Defeating the Giant of Hopelessness

Defeating hopelessness in your life can be a challenge. Major causes of feeling hopelessness is divorce, death of a loved one, severe physical illness, emotional abandonment, and a series of devastating personal losses.

“The world dares say no more but its device, that, while I live, I hope. But the children of God can add by virtue of a living hope, while I expire, I hope.” -Leighton

“Hope is the most beneficial of all the affections, and doth much to the prolongation of life, if it be not too often frustrated, but entertaineth the fancy with an expectation of good” -Bacon

“Eternity is the divine treasure house and hope is the window, by means of which mortals are permitted to see, as through a glass darkly, the things which God is preparing.” -Mountford

Hope appears 150 times in the Bible 83 times in the New Testament! Never more than now do we need to be hopeful.

Claim the following principles and Scriptures to build your hope.

  1. Hope drove the early pioneers to the West Coast.
  2. Hope drove and drives inventors to create.
  3. Hope drove polio victims to walk.
  4. HOPE IS AN ANCHOR. Heb. 6:19 “Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul both sure and steadfast”.
  5. HOPE PROTECTS. I Thes. 5:8 “But let us, who are of the day be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, AND FOR A HELMET THE HOPE OF SALVATION”.

True hope, hope that saves, is hope in God. It is God who gives power. God is the great renewing force. Get more of God in your heart. If he comes in, hope comes in. KEEP IN MIND THAT, LIKE SPRING, HOPE ALWAYS COMES BACK. “My hope is built on nothing else than Jesus blood and righteousness”.

Shepherd's Corner

Welcome Rob & Lisa Callicott. Praise God for blessing this congregation with the presence of this wonderful Christian family. In our prayers to our Heavenly Father for our Pulpit Minister position, God has answered with many wonderful applicants. Today Church, we are blessed to enjoy one of those with the Callicott family. Today, Rob will teach our morning Adult Class and Preach the Sermon. This evening at 5:30 PM, Rob will also participate in a devotional. All L.I.F.E. Groups and members are encouraged to be present.

This evening we will also enjoy a Leadership Training for Christ presentation by the LTC Group that has just returned from the convention in Phoenix. Church, we all need to be here and encourage these young people that have represented this congregation so well, and are such a blessing. After the evening devotional, we all will enjoy a Pot Luck Fingerfood Fellowship. This will be followed by a "Late Night with Rob" session of questions and answers. Please come and participate in this time of Praise, Fellowship and Blessings.

Teen Scene

The Bible is the only book in the world where the author comes to personally teach you the truths contained within. The Holy Spirit Himself will be your teacher as you open up the pages of God's word with a seeking, hungry heart. Teens, just in case we don't have an opportunity to sit together and talk about the word and it's implications for our lives, there will be one who is always there, always with you, always eager to shine the light of illumination on the text.

I can remember times in my life when I was about to make a decision that I knew in my heart was wrong. And as I was beginning to turn in that direction, the Holy Spirit would flash a scripture across the screen of my mind. The spirit used what I knew of scripture to warn me and direct me onto the right path. He uses what you know , He uses what you're learning, what you're digging out of scripture for yourself. Then in those times when you're about to make a critical decision, the spirit will pull those verses out of your memory and allow them to come before your spiritual eyes. He'll help to keep you from doing things you other-wise might have done, had you not known the heart and mind of God.

That's what we learn when we continue to study, the heart and mind of our God. The point is, no matter how busy your life gets, don't forget to study and spend that time with God!  -Scott

"Teach 'em While They're Young"
By Lynelle Dehlbom

Lifetime Attitudes Start At An Early Age
Before our children can talk, we begin to teach them to say “please” and “thank you”. As they grow older we teach them other guidelines such as “Don’t talk with your mouth full”, “Don’t interrupt when someone is speaking”, and “Wait for your turn”. With these lessons we instill in them the importance of being polite and thoughtful. Our goal is good manners. But something else sneaks into our children, riding alongside these lessons. Attitudes. Early practices of good manners leads to attitudes of such as respect for others.

We begin to teach these manners/habits/attitudes at an early age because that is when children often don’t know how to act or behave in many situations so they look to us - and mimic what they see. They desire to do what is right, and have strong opinions of right and wrong. Often based upon what they observed before we even realize it.

So what attitudes about God are we teaching our children? Are we teaching our children that God is important enough for them to pay attention to Him.

Most young children have the ability to sit quietly and participate in worship service. They can mimic their parents by standing, sitting, singing, and praying with them. This helps our children develop the attitude that God is worthy of their attention, time, respect and honor!

Jennifer Dupey & Carl Wigglesworth desire to announce their engagement to the Dalton Gardens Family. The ceremony is set for July 29, 2006, in our Garden of Prayer

Martin & Kelly White (Dupey) will be moving back to the great Northwest in May. They are expecting their first child in September. That means Dan & Teri will be grandparents!

Card Ministry
Thanks to all who have contributed cards. We will constantly be needing cards so any help will be appreciated. Homemade, store bought, or even photos to use in making cards will be welcomed. We have decided not to include birthdays at this time, but “get well”, “encouragement”, and “thinking of you” and blank cards will be used. Currently we are in need of postage stamps. A basket has been set up in the office for your contribution. Thanks!

Lewiston Ladies Retreat – Puffer Butte Lodge
The Lewiston ladies are hosting a ladies camp at Puffer Butte Lodge in Fields Spring State Park in Anatone, WA, on May 5th, 6th, and 7th. Registration cost is $45.00 per adult and $22.50 per girl (ages 5 – 13). They have many speakers and activities planned. If any of our ladies are interested in attending this ladies camp, there will be registration forms available in the office. See Mary Petersen for more information.
