Slaying Giants in Your Life
By Ralph Crump

Part 15:
Defeating the Giant of Intolerance to Change

Twenty seven different changes in a man’s life are mentioned in Eccles. 3:2-8. Thus being flexible to and with change is essential for mental and spiritual well being.

  1. We are living in a time of great changes. Toffler used the word TRANSIENCE to describe our time as he said no other word depicts our state of flux.
  2. The ability of people to change varies from person to person, and even for the same person, it varies from situation to situation.
  3. Tolerance for change is not necessarily age-related. Some young persons may be more resistant to change than are some older persons. However as we grow older many of us may become less inclined to change. It is easy for us to think the past was better (which Solomon says is not wise, Eccles. 7:10).
  4. Change is hard to deal with when it comes quickly and unexpectedly, or in too great a volume.
  5. Tolerance to change is related to the assessed value of the area in which change is to occur. Change is more easily accepted in areas of life that are considered less important.
  6. Reaction to change is positive when the change is seen as beneficial to the goals or aspirations of the individual who lives by Christian Biblical values and principles.
  7. Change should be undertaken when it offers some advantage for our purposes as a church, and not just for the sake of change.

THERE ARE TWO GREAT AREAS OF POSITIVE CHANGE:

  1. Change which is promoted by Scripture, and is either part of a corrective process, or is intrinsic to growth or progress in the Faith. Heb. 11:6; 2 Peter 3:18.
  2. Change which is a matter of choice and which may appear to be expedient. (See I Cor. 6:12; 10:23). In the latter case, great care must be taken not to carelessly override the scruples of others. At the same time, it must be noted that the Scriptures which warn against using our areas of liberty in a way that causes others to sin by violating their consciences, or to fall away; were not intended to be used as a threat by brethren who are not about to fall away, but just have a different opinion.

Such an effort to use these passages to manipulate or to control a church is Biblically unfounded.

In the midst of continual changes in our life let us TAKE COMFORT IN THE FACT THAT JESUS NEVER CHANGES. “JESUS CHRIST THE SAME YESTERDAY AND TODAY, AND FOREVER” Heb. 13:8. To be continued.

Shepherd's Corner

IN THE PERFECT garden of creation, God instituted marriage to enable committed couples to cultivate happiness, to support the family, and to build communities. HOW? Christians are led by the Spirit and can find strength and encouragement in Christ. Prayerful persistence is better than simplistic answers. With Christ in us, we can become more than conquerors through Him who loved us. Christian couples can work to make their marriage work and have confidence in God’s creation of marriage. Commit to the following TEN MARRIAGE VALUES & PRINCIPLES:

  1. COMFORT EACH OTHER. Provide a refuge and sanctuary for each other from the chill winds of the world.
  2. CARESS AS YOU WOULD BE CARESSED…Remember that as babies can die with lack of touching so can marriages wither from lack of closeness.
  3. BE A FRIEND AND PARTNER...Friendship can be a peaceful island, separate and apart in a world of turmoil and strife.
  4. BE OPEN WITH EACH OTHER...Bind not yourselves in the secretness that causes suspicion and doubt.
  5. LISTEN TO EACH OTHER...LEARN TO LISTEN TO UNDERSTAND RATHER THAN LISTENING TO ARGUE.
  6. RESPECT EACH OTHER’S RIGHTS...Each owns himself, and has the right to equality.
  7. ALLOW THE OTHER TO BE AN INDIVIDUAL...Accept the other as they are, as you would have yourself accepted.
  8. GIVE EACH OTHER APPROVAL...Remember criticism divides, while compliment encourages.
  9. CHERISH YOUR UNION...Maintain enough separateness to allow each other his or her own unique oneness.
  10. LOVE ONE ANOTHER...Above all else...Love One Another.

WEEKLY BULLETIN

Christian Prevention and
Relationship Enhancement Program

Many marriages experience a high level of distress, often ending in divorce. Not only is it estimated that nearly half of all marriages will end in divorce, but there are countless other couples who remain in stable but distressed relationships, living in varying degrees of marital stress over long periods of time. Mace and Mace (1980) suggest that in marriages that do not end in divorce, less than 50% of the couples are truly happy. Standard approaches to marital distress provide interventions after problems develop, when negative effects on spouses and children may already be in evidence (Bloom, 1985). Christian PREP (CPREP) provides an approach where the goal is to teach skills and attitudes associated with successful marital adjustment before problems develop. Even after couples have developed negative styles, CPREP can help change the negative impact on the marriage, if the couple is committed to improving the relationship.

Match wits with Lads, LTC youths online
Do you know where Micah lived? How about the name of Manasseh’s firstborn, or the exact number of years that Lamech, son of Methuselah, walked the earth?

Thousands of youths are studying their Bibles as they prepare for the annual conventions of Lads to Leaders/Leaderettes and Leadership Training for Christ on April 14-16. They’ll answer questions and give speeches on themes from Genesis, Joshua, Judges and Ruth.

Organizers expect more than 10,000 participants at nine LTC sites, where the theme is “Take the Lead - Judges 5:2.”

"Auction Time is Here!"
By Dan Dupey

This time of the year is always a special time for the Christian school and the Dalton congregation! We join hands and share an evening together! We have a fellowship meal prepared by the top chefs of the Coeur d'Alene Inn, visiting together, placing our silent auction bids, and listening to the great entertainment of the Christian school Jr. High class! This includes several students you know personally. (Josh Nelson, Alan Frisk, Ronnie Ross, Micaela Dehlbom, Robin Flanders, Felicia Rex, attend services here often) Let’s support them! But, also several other students from this class will be performing and entertaining you for the evening. A great opportunity to show your Christian Love, support, and encouraging words in sharing Christ!

I know, when we think about it, that being Christ-like is being a 'server’ and an encourager. It is such an easy thing to do, and Jesus knew this, but it is so difficult at the same time. It is just that we all get so busy and do not take the time or possibly, think it is so insignificant that it does not matter. However, we have all experienced and know how far a simple encouraging word can go! Let's all try more.

This is an opportunity to support the Christian school while, at the same time, have an exciting evening of eating and out-bidding your neighbor! Pull down the cookie jar and get ready to bid!

We have several great items for bidding opportunities! This is a special time for the school where funds are needed to help meet payroll for our teachers. What a great way to help out as a Christian family! If possible, please attend! The evening program will run from about 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM Friday.

We appreciate all those who have donated, purchased tickets already and sponsored tables for dinner. By the way, if you need a "spot" at a table already purchased, please contact me! We are Ready to Go! We also appreciate ALL the extra time and effort Georgette has put into this as our auction director! She has been a blessing.

-CCS just finished Spring Break and parent-teacher conferences
-We are at about 60 days remaining in the school year.
-Thank you for all your help and involvement with CCS this year!
