Slaying Giants in Your Life
By Ralph Crump

Part 13: Defeating the Giant of Guilt

Slaying the giant of guilt is an internal matter of dealing with conscience. It is a uniquely human experience as old as Adam. See Gen. 3:3 and following. Conscience is that process of thought which distinguishes what it considers morally good or bad. Real guilt is actual feeling of sinfulness which often is the result of transgressions of God’s laws and a refusal to confess sins. Pseudo guilt is guilt feelings which often have their basis in childhood experiences resulting from parental behavior characterized by condemnation, accusation or blame.

When you experience true guilt you should ask:
1. Why are you feeling guilty?
2. How should I act upon confession and restitution? See John 1:9
3. To whom should I show forgiveness? See Eph. 4:32
4. Ask God to heal your unhealthy conscience by:
   a) Remember and apply. See Rom. 8:1
   b) Rely upon God’s Word. See 2 Tim. 3:16-17; Heb. 4:12
   c) Be sensitive to His Spirit. See 2 Tim. 3:16-17; Heb. 4:12

To slay the giant of guilt CLAIM THESE SCRIPTURES AS CHRISTIANS.
1. God can cleanse all of our guilt!! If God has forgiven you, you must practice self-forgiveness. A Christian has the right to claim with strong confidence the truth of I John 1:9. CHRIST, OUR SAVIOR, REMOVES ALL OUR SINS - PAST, PRESENT, AND FUTURE THROUGH HIS FINISHED WORK ON THE CROSS.
2. “I have blotted out, like a cloud, your transgressions, and like a cloud, your sins. Return to Me, for I have redeemed you” Isa. 44:22.
3. “There is therefore no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus” Rom. 8:1.
4. “One thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus” Phil. 3:13-14.
5. Remember, “You can do all things through Christ” Phil. 4:13 AND THAT INCLUDES BEING ABLE TO SLAY THE GIANT OF GUILT.

Shepherd's Corner

One of the most difficult, and yet one of the most rewarding of things in life is changes. And one thing that we can guarantee is that in life there will be changes. Recently we have gone through a lot of changes here at Dalton Gardens Church of Christ.

Another change that we are beginning to undertake is the selection of new deacons and elders. In light of all these other changes we are currently dealing with, it was suggested to move the selection process to October. After prayer and discussion with the deacons and ministry heads, it was agreed to do this. We will keep you updated as to the starting of the process.

It is wonderful to know that God is with us as we make adjustments and changes in life. God wants us to make changes in our lives to bring us into a closer relationship with him and to glorify him in what we do. It is even more wonderful to know that God is always faithful, that he does not change (James 1:17), and know that he has provided a way of our salvation with him through Jesus.  -From the Elders

WEEKLY BULLETIN

Christian Prevention and
Relationship Enhancement Program

“The CPREP approach is based on the following assumptions: First, that God is the designer of marriage for great intimacy, expressed as “being one.” While it is hard to define oneness (and dangerous to box couples into a limited concept of it), it is very clear that many if not most couples are unable to achieve a lasting oneness characterized by joy and fulfillment in God’s design for marriage. Second, all couples will encounter problems because we live in a fallen world and marry imperfect people. Third, a couple’s ability to handle conflict and disagreements well is not only the single best predictor of future marital happiness, poor handling of such differences will destroy a marriage with certainty. In other words, whatever oneness is, couples will not attain it if they cannot handle their differences with respect and skill. Therefore, it is not the presence or absence of problems in the relationship that determines how a couple will do in the future, but rather it is the way those differences or disagreements are handled by the couple that determines the success of the relationship. Fourth, couples can learn skills and attitudes that greatly enhance their ability to have excellent marriages.”

In attending the seminar you can “Gain fresh insights into why men and women see life so differently. You’ll leave with a whole new appreciation for who you are - and whom you love.” All program outlines and materials will be given to you at the seminar. The cost is $35 per couple, and singles are free. Financial assistance is available. Please see an elder.

Teen Scene

When it comes to faith in God, the odds are always irrelevant. I love the story of Gideon, building up an army of Israelites to take on a host of Midianite invaders. The Lord said to him, "You have too many men for me to deliver Midian into their hands. In order that Israel may not boast against me that her own strength has saved her" Judges 7:2 . Too many men? Did I hear you right, Lord? Yes, he'd heard correctly. God didn't want anything approaching even odds for this encounter. So prior to his first military encounter, Gideon had to send home almost all of his soldiers, leaving him with only three hundred men against a huge and powerful army. With that small number however, The Lord easily routed the enemy. You know guys it really doesn't matter what you face in your life, or how intimidating the task might seem, God is always more than adequate.

This is a lesson I had to remember this past few weeks. With final preparations for Miqvah and so much yet to do, I began to feel overwhelmed. But then I remembered, this rally is not just ours. It's God's rally as well. He is, will be, and always has been our strength.

We are Blessed! A big "Thank You" goes out to our teens, parents, host
families , office staff, media and art work, those who planned and prepared meals, cookie makers, and other volunteers who stepped in. We appreciate all the chaperones, parents, and teens from other congregations who have come to be a part of Miqvah 2006. It takes all of us to make a successful Youth Rally and send Praises to our Lord!

C.C.S. School News

"School of Faith" By Marci Nelson

The other day in Bible class we were reading, in Luke chapter 16, about the rich man and Lazarus which inevitably led to those questions about what happens to us after we die. Which brought up the question, "Why doesn’t God just explain everything to us? Why can’t we have all of the answers?"

Before I started teaching at the Christian school, I was plagued by the same questions. I listened to and contemplated theories about death, creation, and other "unanswered" questions in the Bible. My biology professor at Columbia Christian College told me that the important thing was that I had faith in God’s truth. I did not understand that back then. I wanted answers.

But, slowly, over the years of teaching at the Christian school, God has revealed some truths to me, and as usual, they are not the truths for which I thought I was looking. God calls us like He called Abram to do His will. But wouldn’t it be so much easier if we heard His voice like Abram did? Sometimes we may ask ourselves, "Why does the Christian school have financial struggles? Why doesn’t God just take away all those uncertainties?"

When I have these doubts, I am reminded of the story about the man born blind in John 9: "And His disciples asked Him saying, ‘Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he should be born blind?’ Jesus answered, ‘It was neither that this man sinned, nor his parents; but it was in order that the works of God might be displayed in him.’"

Of all of the innumerable lessons that I have learned in my years at the Christian school, this one sticks out the most: God cares for us and will provide for us. He wants us to do His will and to recognize when He blesses us. This is where the church comes in. God uses the church to meet these needs to bring that glory to Him, just like when Jesus healed that blind man. I have seen it a lot lately. The church has been giving the school tremendous support through personal donations, buying candy bars, auction donations, one for books donations, attending the talent show and history fair and the eighth grade breakfasts. That is only listing the more obvious forms of support. We know that you continue to bless us with words of encouragement and prayer.

In all of my years at the Christian school, my most valuable lesson has been that although we do not have all of the answers, we need to trust in Our Heavenly Father to give us what we need even when we may not know what that is. "And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him." Hebrews 11:6.

“A Night of Knights”
Plan now to attend the Coeur d’Alene Christian School Auction Friday, April 7, at the Coeur d’Alene Inn. There will be a special performance of the Broadway Musical Camelot by the CCS drama students. Tickets are on sale now. Be a sponsor and get the Royal treatment. See Carrie in the school office.

Church Auction Baskets
Dalton Gardens will be donating two baskets to the CCS Auction this year. The two themes are “Baby on Board” and “Canning”. There is a “Baby Play Pen” in the foyer to collect your donated baby items such as diapers, wipes, clothing, toys, pacifiers, nursery items, etc. Ideas for the canning basket are mason jars, jams and jellies, fabric labels, canning supplies, etc. Let’s make these the biggest baskets at the auction!!

Games & Magazines Wanted
Do you have any home or family magazines such as Better Homes & Gardens or Family Circle that you don't need anymore? If so, CCS could use some of these for art projects. Also, if you have any board games that your family doesn't play anymore, we could use them at school. Drop them by the school office or speak with Kathy Taylor if you have any questions. Thank you!

Bookfair Thanks!
We appreciate your support of CCS through the One for Books! program and our bookfair. We raised $441 dollars worth of books for our school and classroom libraries! Thank you!

Men’s Softball League
There is a sign-up sheet for men’s softball on the kiosk. See Adam Rouse if you have any questions.

Thank You!
When nothing else could help, love lifted me up. Thank you church family.
Love, Carole Fredrikson
