Slaying Giants in Your Life
By Ralph Crump

Part 12:
Defeating the Giant of Division, Part II

There is power in unity and weakness in division. Our Savior knew this, and he prayed, “That they all may be one… that the world might believe that you did send me,” John 17:21. A huddle of diverse elements isn’t unity. We may fight together, vote together, petition together, and plan together, but unity will elude us until we BELIEVE THE SAME THINGS.

If we would have the one hope of eternal life, we must believe what the Bible says. The Bible says there is one body, one Spirit, one hope, one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God. You and I can be united upon what the Bible does say, but we could never hope for unity upon what the Bible does not say. In I Cor. 1:10 Jesus is asking that there be no division among us. His admonition is that we be united in heart, mind, purpose, speech, judgment, and in everything that pertains to the salvation of men.

Claim these Scriptures to help us slay the giant of division.

  • “Fulfill you (make full) my joy, that you be likeminded (of the same mind), having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind”. Phil. 2:2 KJV
  • “Now the God of patience and consolation grant you to be likeminded one toward another according to Jesus Christ” Rom. 15:5 KJV
  • Each can pray for unity at home and abroad Jesus did so, and we ought to follow his example. Each can persuade, exhort and encourage others to walk in unity and concord, while showing the way in his own life. IF THE WORLD IS TO BE WON, WE MUST BE ONE.
  • Thomas Campbell in the “Declaration and Address” taught as the first principle that “The church of Christ is essentially, intentionally and constitutionally ONE.”

Shepherd's Corner

Do you ever take the opportunity to read spiritual/religious books besides the Bible? This is a great avenue to help you grow within your knowledge and understanding of the Bible. As you do this we encourage you to always read this with your Bible open in order to compare it with God's Word. Recently I had this opportunity as I read about baptism in Unveiling Glory written by Jeff Childers & Fred Aquino. One of the things they wrote was, "Baptism is a marvelous point of entry for disciples and should not be commandeered by agendas that reduce it to a simple rule or that focus solely on debates about its essentiality. Such agendas distract us from the essence of baptism, weakening our understanding of the discipleship it pictures."

The essence of baptism is that this is where we come into contact with Jesus, in his life, death, and resurrection (Romans 6:3-10). It is in baptism that we are reborn by the washing and renewal through the Holy Spirit (Titus 3:3-7). It is where we receive the forgiveness of sin (Acts 2:38). It is where we are transformed and begin to live a new life (Romans 12:1-2; Colossians 1:13-20; Ephesians 2:1-10).

It is good to read and study what the Bible teaches as important. It is encouraging to find these things in other books and to be reminded of how we can and should live our lives and teach others. There are many such books out there, and many of them are written by some of our brothers and sisters. Please take advantage of these and be challenged.

State Of The Art Tools For An Extraordinary Marriage
The Christian Prevention and Relationship Enhancement Program is coming, April 1-2, to Dalton Gardens. (See the posters in the foyer.)
Marriage can be an oasis of acceptance and appreciation. The seminar is for everyone who wants to be understood. Here’s a simple but effective tool to bring insight and closeness to your relationships. The speakers are Bill and Linda Wright. They have been trained to become marriage mentors in their church. Bill is highly trained in Relationship Enhancement programs. He also has started his own company in Family Foundation. Linda is a master’s level psychotherapist and licensed professional counselor in the state of Georgia. She has worked the past six years as a counselor at the Genesis Center for Christian Counseling in North Atlanta. IT IS ALSO THEIR JOINT MISSION TO HELP GOOD MARRIAGES REIGNITE INTO GREAT MARRIAGES.

In attending the seminar you can “Gain fresh insights into why men and women see life so differently. You’ll leave with a whole new appreciation for who you are - and whom you love.” All program outlines and materials will be given to you at the seminar. The cost is $35 per couple, and singles are free. Financial assistance is available. See an elder. Mark your calendar and plan to attend!

Who’s Coming to Dinner?
It’s that time again for Who’s Coming to Dinner? A sign up sheet can be found on the kiosk for everyone interested in hosting or being a guest for dinner. Everyone’s names who have signed up will be randomly drawn from a hat. First draw will be the host, and second draw will be the guest. This will be a time to get to know each other and enjoy each other’s company, drawing us closer in our church family. Names will start to be drawn the end of March. Once your names are drawn, the host will be responsible to contact the guest to find an evening that is good for both parties. For more information contact Paula Morris 664-1046 or Kim Borsheim 772-8183.

"Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present
your requests to God.”
-Philippians 4:6

Teen Scene

Miqvah Sunday Schedule
We will have a special schedule that day. The format for the day will be a little different than our regular morning service. Rather than holding our normal Bible classes, we will have two worship sessions with a break in the middle. The first session will start at 9:30 a.m., and the second at 10:30 a.m. The Lord's supper will be served during the second session. There will be classes for the children, 6th grade and younger, starting at 9:30 a.m. and concluding at 10:15 a.m. Come and be a part of Miqvah 2006. There will be lots of singing and praise as well as two great lessons, one from Chris Rouse, and the other from Dave Johnson. We expect the auditorium to be pretty full so come early to get your seats.

Next Sunday is Miqvah
Less than one week to go!!! Miqvah 2006 is almost here! My, how time has flown. It seems like yesterday that we started brainstorming and planning. There is still much to do but we are getting closer, and with the Lord's help we will be ready on Friday evening. I would like to offer an invitation to the entire congregation to drop by at some point in the weekend and see what's going on. Of course many of you will be around when you come to pick up the teens that you will be housing. I wish to thank you in advance for opening your homes to these young people, you will truly enjoy them.

Our young people today really need interaction with adults. I don't think anyone would question the need young people have for adults who are available, caring, and coming to them without a hidden or self-centered agenda. When adults are not present and involved in their lives, they are forced to figure out how to survive life on their own. Often they will not initiate the relationship, but will gladly accept it if you offer to be a part of their life. Some of the fondest memories that I have of my teenage years include adults who went out of their way to be a part of my life. Make a difference in the life of a teenager; make a new friend today!  -Scott

PS. Teens, I only have two photos on my wall. What are you waiting for?

Men’s Softball League
There is a sign-up sheet for men’s softball on the kiosk. See Adam Rouse if you have any questions.

"A Time for Us" By Dan Dupey

God is wonderful. A Father, who gives us Hope. He gives us a reason to be excited about Life, if you will. I was thankful for the very direct and important lesson brought to us last Sunday, by Ralph, utilizing the theme, "Unity".

We can see that in so many ways this year is a very transitional year. It is a time when we have been shifting gears with our youth with continued great leadership. It is a time when we have weekly received a myriad of lessons from the pulpit that have been interesting, personal, and encouraging. Most congregations struggle to find willing members to step up to the plate with lessons from the heart with Bible knowledge as we have seen. I know it has been enjoyable to all that have chosen to speak including myself.

It is a time for Dalton's Christian School to seriously look at the future. The staff, elders and school board want you all to know that this is the Church's school. It is a place where YOU can become involved in changing a person’s life immediately. YOU, as well as all of us who contribute information to the students here, have an opportunity to bring CHRIST into their lives, seriously.

What better arena than the table that is already set and waiting! We have children that need the gentle Character of Christ, and we become short-handed at times. We have children that want to hear how knowing Christ has changed lives, and you have that information. We have children that need an understanding, patient, caring Christ-like person to administer to some serious needs and problems developing in their homes. It is a joy to be a part of this implementation, but I feel we, at times, fall short of getting the message out to you concerning that need.

A needy situation, a mission, as we know does NOT have to be in Central America, Africa or even across the state. It can be in our own back yard, and often is. God knows we have needs right here among the sheep. There are many that need our encouragement, our embrace, and our knowledge of Christ. God has instructed us to serve, to meet the needs, to be His army while His Chief Priest and Mighty Leader, Christ is away. We, remember, are NOT of this world. We really are not and it is difficult to act this out in our every day lives. The world wants us to be and act like the world. God wants us to live and act like His servants and serve.

It is difficult. We all know this and have experienced in many ways how difficult it really is. We invite you to contact us with, "How can we serve or help serve in Dalton's Christian School?" We also might ask, "Who is suffering, who is hurting, who has a need among the sheep of God's Church?" Then, LET US SERVE ! We become excited about living and we can shout the song, "God has a Plan for Me, I have a future!!
