Slaying Giants in Your Life
By Ralph Crump

Part 11: Defeating the Giant of Division

A Giant for slaying division was Thomas Campbell. In his “Declaration and Address” he states, “Division among the Christians is a horrid evil, fraught with many evils; It is anti-Christian, as it destroys the visible unity of the body of Christ; It is anti-scriptural, as being strictly prohibited by (Christ’s) authority”.

People are not divided religiously over what the Bible says but rather over what they think the Bible says. We are not divided over truth but over interpretations of the truth. It is human interference, lack of knowledge, and sometimes even wrong motives that cause us to not see what we are seeing and to refuse to really hear what we hear. John R. Mott said that “the price of a divided Christendom is an unbelieving world”, and yet what are you and I doing to further a proper scriptural unity for which Christ prayed for?

Claim the following scriptures to help us slay the giant of division.

  1. Paul wrote, “Now I beg you brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all speak the same thing, that there be no divisions among you: but that you be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment”. 1 Cor. 1:1
  2. Phil. 3:16 “Let us walk by the same rule, let us mind the same thing!”
  3. If we expect to be united in our fellowship and with the Lord, we must submit completely to the Word of the Lord. His word is our only authority (Matt. 28:18).
  4. If the world is to be won, we must be one!
  5. If we expect to have the unity for which our Master prayed (John 17:21-23), we must take the Word as it is, make no substitutions, and venture no doctrinal changes in it.

Shepherd's Corner

In Acts we learn that the early church would have fellowship and share their meals together. In the Bible we also learn that we are to love and honor one another. This morning we have an opportunity to do both of these as we share a meal together in a potluck. As we do this we will give special honor to our new members and welcome them to our family. We do this because we are excited and thrilled to have new brothers and sisters whether they are new members via baptism or placing membership with us.

Please stay and join our celebration after services this morning. Following this we will have a congregational meeting. This will be a meeting to provide information in several areas, and to allow you an opportunity to ask questions. A meeting agenda is on the kiosk. If you have other things that you would like discussed please feel free to ask.

appreciated!

MIQVAH Housing Expectations
Thank you for choosing to serve by being a host family for some of our Youth Rally guests. Blessings for serving God always far outweigh the inconveniences. I will include a schedule of events for the entire weekend on the back of this letter, and want you to feel welcome to participate at any time you can.

As a host/hostess, you will be expected to furnish breakfast, and transportation, if possible. Breakfasts might just be cereal & milk or muffins/sweet rolls/doughnuts. They will appreciate whatever you do. If transportation is a problem, let us know and we can work out an alternative.

You will need to pick up your guests at the church building at 10:15 PM Friday night and return them by 8:30 AM Saturday morning; pick them up again at 3:00 PM Saturday afternoon to get dressed for the banquet and return them to the banquet here at the building at 6:00 PM. Pick them up after the banquet at 11:00 PM. They will need to be back for Bible Class at 9:30 AM on Sunday morning. Plan to be a part of a large combined Bible class taught by Chris Rouse, and an auditorium full for second worship.

Thanks for having a servant heart.  -Scott Rouse

Do you have any items that you would like to donate to the CCS auction? Please drop them off at the school office as soon as possible.

Dalton Gardens Church Auction Baskets
Dalton Gardens will be donating two baskets to the CCS Auction this year. The two themes are “Baby on Board” and “Canning”. There is a “Baby Play Pen” in the foyer to collect your donated baby items such as diapers, wipes, clothing, toys, pacifiers, nursery items, etc. Ideas for the canning basket are mason jars, jams and jellies, fabric labels, canning supplies, etc. Let’s make these the biggest baskets at the auction!! Thank you!

The Bookfair is Coming!
The CCS bookfair is coming , Monday, March 12th to Thursday, March 16th. Please make special plans to help our school by supporting the bookfair.

One for Books!
In your box you will find a One for Books! donation slip. This is a program offered by Scholastic that turns your $1 donation to CCS into a book for a child in distressed situations. Your $1 donation goes to CCS libraries and provides a book for a child in need. Your gift gives twice! Just attach your donation to the slip and put it in the bucket on the kiosk marked One for Books! Thank you!

Pancake Breakfast
The Christian school eighth graders are raising money for the annual eighth grade trip.  They will be providing breakfasts with a menu of: scrambled eggs, a sausage patty, 2 pancakes, and juice or milk for just $2.50. These breakfasts will be served from 7:00 a.m. to 8:20 a.m. in the church kitchen

Get The Gang Together
Hundreds of Christians come to the Pepperdine Bible Lectures in groups, often arranged at church. We enjoy seeing individuals and families, but we are also excited to see churches reserve sections of the dorms and become “neighbors”—sort of like going back to college! Attending the Lectures as a group multiplies the benefits for a congregation, as the people return home excited about the things they have experienced together. Get a group going! E-mail kdildine@pepperdine.edu for information.

Ladies’ Craft Day!
Bring your projects and join the fun! We are having a ladies craft day on Friday, March 10th, from 5:00 p.m. in the small auditorium. You should bring your craft supplies, a small craft supply item to donate as a prize for lots of drawings and a finger food to share for a potluck supper. There will be craft BINGO, snacks, fellowship and lots of fun! If you’re not a crafter, come and learn something new. Join us for all or part of this fun-filled evening. All are welcome, so bring a friend!
