Slaying Giants in Your Life
By Ralph Crump

Part 9: Defeating the Giant of Hostility

Someone has said “There is probably no way to live very long in our modern, complex world without feeling anger.” Dr. S.I. McMillen in None of These Diseases points out, “Our emotions are neither good nor bad. It is their use or misuse which makes them positive or destructive.” When I worked for the V.A. I gave one of my talks in the L.E.A.R.N. program (Lessons Enhancing A Responsibility Normalcy). I presented the following basic medical research showing that the cause of anger is “the feeling of being either physically or psychologically restrained from doing what one intensely desires to do”. But there are many other causations.

COMMON CAUSES OF ANGER:

  1. Insult or humiliation.
  2. Frustrations resulting from the blocking or interfering with goal oriented behavior.
  3. Interruption of interest or joy.
  4. Taken advantage of.
  5. Compelled to do something against one’s wishes.

FOUR MAJOR WAYS OF DEALING WITH ANGER

  1. The four major possible ways of dealing with anger are to repress it, suppress it, express it, or confess it. Dr. Cecil G. Osborne writes: “Repression takes a terrible toll and is the source of some of our most troublesome physical problems”.
  2. In the second place, suppression of anger can have bad consequences. People who suppress their anger frequently are often human examples of Mt . St. Helens.
  3. A third way of dealing with anger is to express it in a negative, destructive way, that is to “blow up” or to retaliate. THIS IS IMPROPER!
  4. The fourth and only good way to handle anger is by developing a new nature or new way of looking at life. Paul wrote, “Put off your old nature… and put on the new nature, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness”. Eph. 4:22-24 Paul continues “Be angry but do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger, and give no opportunity to the devil”. Eph. 4 :25-27 Regarding confession of inappropriate anger that makes another stumble (See Rom. 14:21) it should be stopped and dealt with in a positive Christian manner. See 1 John 1:9

Church Goals
There are so many wonderful things going on with the Dalton Gardens Church Family. We have many wonderful servants doing works of service for the Lord’s Kingdom. It's difficult for even the Elders to keep up with all the good works taking place. And you servants are to be commended. God knows who you are.
However, without vision, a church will die. Listed in this "Family News" is our Vision Statement that we are a Christ-focused family committed to Winning the Lost, Maturing the Saints, and Knitting the Body together in Love. Also listed on page 3 are our 2006 CHURCH GOALS.
Church, in spite of all the good works - as God's people we need reminding that our primary purpose is to be sharing the "good news" of JESUS. For this congregation to grow, we must be in the Word and sharing it with others. To keep the joy of Christianity to ourselves is selfish. In a world bound by sin the freedom in Christ Jesus must be shared.
Prayers are important but involvement is absolutely necessary. If we are not "growing up into Christ" - then we are not disciples. Discipleship is not a static phenomenon. Our prayer is that every member of this church will find a ministry to actively serve in. "As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead". James 2: 26

WEEKLY BULLETIN

New Member’s Potluck & Congregational Meeting
On Sunday, March 5, we will be having a potluck lunch to honor all those who have been baptized and who have placed membership in the year 2005. You will be enlightened with important congregational news after lunch. After the meeting we will all enjoy George’s famous homemade ice cream and desserts. Please plan now to attend.

Church Work Party
There will be a work party on Saturday, February 25 starting at 9:00 a.m. The purpose is to install the new lights and fans in the large auditorium. We will need at least 20 people to complete the project in a reasonable time frame. We also need about 5-6 people to assist Friday at 4:30 p.m. to unload and set up the scaffolding. Both men and women are invited to attend.

Youth and Family Minister Search Committee
The up-date on this committee is two fold. There are changes to composition of membership. Parent representative Sharon Nirk requested a release from this responsibility. She served in an admirable manner and will be missed. Leeann Freshour and Dan Sims are assuming parent representative roles. Mark Borsheim is serving as co-chair to keep the process flowing in my absence. Committee is setting a deliberated and determined course to fulfill the mission. Currently a number of candidates are under consideration. We will keep the congregation informed as the process moves forward. Please keep the committee and candidates in your prayers. -Ivan Archer

"Be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age”

Teen Scene

Last weekend we enjoyed winter retreat at camp Prince's Pine. It was a fantastic trip. Twenty teens and seven adults spent the weekend sledding, tubing, throwing snow, and having a great time. I would like to take a minute to give praise where praise is due. First of all, there would probably not be a winter retreat or a camp for that matter if John Simpson was not here. John's dedication to the camp is priceless and we as a youth group are very thankful for his tireless efforts. A special thank you to Paul and Patty Welter as well as Dan Sims and Adam Rouse, for helping with transportation and anything else that was needed, they were great. A big thank you to Chris Rouse for planning and teaching the lessons on trust, they were excellent and well accepted. To Karmen and Mallory for the most important part of the weekend, FOOD! A great big thank you. Last but definitely not least, a big thank you to all the teens who attended. Parents your kids were very well behaved, and you can be proud of them for their efforts to work together and play together.

In one month we will host teens from around the northwest for Miqvah, our youth rally. Our biggest need is for housing. We need homes for approximately 150 people. If you can help with this please sign up on the kiosk or see Kim Borsheim or Kim McIntyre. Please keep the rally in your prayers.

Teens, if you read this don't forget to bring me a school picture!  -Scott

C.C.S. School News

"Where Did The Years Go?"
By Teri Dupey

I have been looking though photos in search of some for the bulletin board that Georgette Rude and Carrie Forbush are putting together about the "History of the C.C.S. Auction". In the process, I see the faces of the many lives I have touched as an educator....teaching God's word in every subject. I have dedicated the last fifteen years to teaching Christian education, supported my husband as a teacher and principal of Christian education for the past twenty-one years, and gratefully watched three children complete from nine to fifteen years of Christian education.

I grew up knowing about the one and only true God...and I am so thankful. I grew up knowing the great value of a private education....yet something was lacking. Now I know what that was....God was a subject for a religious class...not my Father. God wanted my love and devotion as his child. All the knowledge, popularity and wealth could not replace what he wanted and what I came to find was exactly what I wanted, A relationship with the Father and his chosen one....Christ our Lord. I became a Christian at the age of fifteen.

If I have anything to give to the children here at C.C.S., I hope it is a real, an ongoing, model of love, respect and devotion for the one and only true God and Jesus, the Son, that gave his life for me.

Just recently the third and fourth graders studied about a man that decided to put scriptures on the bird bands he had been using to study and track birds. Why would he do this? He hoped that somewhere, someone would read God's word and that it would make a difference in a life. It was a success! Many people wrote and called him to tell him that they were reminded of the Creator and that their lives had been changed. Science is His....and Math and Language....and EVERYTHING!

His Servant, Teri DuPey

Memory Verse - 2nd grade
Follow God’s example in everything you do, because you are His dear children. Live a life filled with love for others, following the example of Christ, who loved you and gave himself as a sacrifice to take away your sins. -Ephesians 5:1-2a
