Slaying Giants in Your Life
By Ralph Crump

Part 7: Defeating the Giant of Temptation

Slaying the giant of temptation is not always easy but excellent when you win over temptation. God certainly never promises to remove temptation from us, for even Christ was subject to it (See Mt. 4:1-11) Temptation shows what people really are. It does not make us Christian or non-Christian. Overcoming the temptation does, however, make the Christian stronger if reliance on Christ is demonstrated and whatever temptation is totally resisted.

Some Things to Know and Retain About Temptation

Temptation is common to all Christians “But remember this - the wrong desires that come into your life aren’t anything new and different. Many others have faced exactly the same problems before you see. 1 Cor. 10:13 and 1 Pet. 5:8-9. Temptation is of the devil Matt. 4:1-11. And also man when he is enticed by his own evil desire by lust for something see James 1:14. TEMPTATION ITSELF IS NOT SIN, BUT SUCCUMBING TO IT IS.

No temptation is irresistible: “You can trust God to keep the temptation from becoming so strong that you can’t stand against it, for he has promised this and will do what he says. HE WILL SHOW YOU HOW TO ESCAPE TEMPTATION’S POWER SO THAT YOU CAN BEAR UP PATIENTLY AGAINST IT” 1 Cor. 10:3 Whatever we experience, Jesus has been there before us. He “was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin” Heb. 4:15 KJV.

Claim the following Scriptures to overcome and slay the giant of temptation.

  1. “Because he (Christ) himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.” Heb. 2:18 NIV
  2. “The Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptations”. 2 Pet. 1:9 KJV
  3. “Blessed is the man that endureth temptation for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love Him”. James 1:12 KJV

With God’s help, fervent prayers and relying on His holy word’ you can slay the giant of temptation.

Shepherd's Corner

Scriptures clearly portray a loving GOD that sees all, knows all and provides all. God is with us in everything we do. Therefore we strive to serve God the very best we can. However, sometimes in our work within the church we tend to get discouraged. Sometimes we even judge our value based upon what others are doing or not doing, rather than keeping our eyes focused on the Lord.

For all of you serving the Lord behind the scenes and wonder why there's no recognition, be assured of this divine fact, GOD sees you and He knows. Please don't allow the insensitivities of others to discourage you in your service to our Lord.

We want to encourage all of you that work diligently and serve so hard to keep on keeping on. Keep serving even if overlooked and under appreciated because GOD does see, and will reward when the time is right. Every member of the Dalton Church Family is important and your contributions to the Lord's Kingdom are needed and appreciated.

1 Thess. 4:9 "Now about brotherly love we do not need to write to you, for you yourselves have been taught by God to love each other"  -For the Elders

Teen Scene

It seems like every week I am making the comment that things on the teen scene are very busy. Well guess what, they are! Mid-winter retreat begins Friday. The vans will leave here about 4:30 on Friday. You will need some money for a stop at the golden arches in Newport. Everyone received a flyer on the trip and should be aware that your medical release form needs to be turned in before you board the van to go. Please let me know today if you plan to attend so that we can plan for important things like food etc.

In preparing for Sunday Bible class, I couldn't help but wonder what would happen in our youth group, or in the church for that matter, if we all took our place and played our part? If we all started living like "Son" reflectors rather than individual stars and suns? If every person's priority became a divine pursuit, not a performance?

I think that we'd se our families differently. We'd treat one another differently. Our youth group and church would begin to shine. People in the community would take notice because we would be changed! The God centered life works, and it rescues us from a life that doesn't. So how about it? Who wants to start reflecting?

This last part is just a little test for the teens so that I can know how many of them read the bulletin. Teens, if you read this I want you to bring me one of your school pictures. I want to make a picture board in the office with all of your lovely faces on it. Don't spread this request around to anyone else or the test will not work. Have a wonderful week!   In Him, Scott

The Prayer of a Christian School Teacher
By Marci Nelson

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you for the mission that you have given to me. Please help me to always seek Your will, not mine, when I face the challenges that come with my calling.

Thank you for my students whom you have given to me. Please help me to recognize and provide for each one's unique needs. Help them to see You in me.

Thank you for the families who have chosen to be a part of this Christian school family. Please help us to provide assistance in all areas. Draw them closer to You.

Thank you for the other staff members who share a common goal. Please help me to uplift them as they uplift me. Fill us with your Holy Spirit that will speak for us when we do not know what to say.

Thank you for all of the Christian school supporters who volunteer their time and money to serve the needs of the Christian school students and their families. Please help us to work together to bring glory to Your name.

Thank you for the building that houses the Christian school. Please help us to be good stewards and use it to its fullest potential for bringing souls to You.

Thank you for your church which you established for our benefit. Bind us together to encourage each other to seek Your will in all things.

Thank you for my family--my husband and my children. Please help me to be a good example and to raise my children to be Your children.

Most of all, thank you for Jesus and the sacrifice that He made to bring salvation to all who seek Him. Please help us to remember that spreading His gospel is what we are all about.

In His precious name, Amen.

Passing of Forrest Moyer
Over the years many came to know and love Forrest and his wife from their Christian bookstore and service to churches throughout the Northwest. Lectureships from California to Alaska, retreats, meetings, holiday fairs and other gatherings found the Moyer Book Store there so one could shop and get the latest Christian books. Forrest was always ready to suggest a book for study or to order books for a class. He touched many lives and will be greatly missed.
