Slaying Giants in Your Life
By Ralph Crump

Part 6: Defeating the Giant of Fear

Last week we discussed how David coped with fear and found spiritual help via 1- Acknowledging the reliability of God and 2 - Admitting the reality of his fears. Step three is appropriating the resources of God.

When you acknowledge the reliability of the one who is in charge of your life and then admit your fear, you have to appropriate the POWER that He has promised to give you. LET US LOOK AT SOME FEAR NOT SCRIPTURAL RESOURCES TO BUILD FAITH WHEN FACING FEARS.

“Be strong and of a good courage, FEAR NOT, nor be afraid...for the Lord thy God, it is He that goes with you; he will not fail you, nor forsake you.” Deut. 31:6

“And FEAR NOT them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.” Matt. 10:28

“But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. FEAR NOT therefore: you are more value than many sparrows.” Luke 12:7

“He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you. So we may boldly say: “The Lord is my helper; I will NOT FEAR. What can man do to me?” Heb. 13:5-6

“There is NO FEAR in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment, but he who fears has not been made perfect in love.” 1 John 4:18

Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter in overcoming fear.

“Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or stress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written: For your sake we are killed all day long; We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am persuaded that neither death nor

Spiritual Leadership in Action

Wednesday past was a defining time for leadership within our congregation. Most did not witness the biblical model of "shepherding", but need to know. The Youth and Family Minister search committee along with elders Ralph Crump, David Bruner and Lamont Petersen came together to process the employment prospect regarding Glenn Tunick. Before details of the situation, I wish to relate the dynamics exhibited on the part of participants.

David Bruner established the tone of the meeting by an eloquent opening statement in which he spoke of the humanness of elders and how they too are subject to imperfections. He quickly turned to the relational implications of availability, commitment, and trust qualities of spiritual leaders. The search committee knew they were empowered and that our elders were no longer functioning as a board of directors flexing corporate management style. Rather they are setting the new standard where future leaders must go as people servants. Several terms are descriptive such as shared decision making, mentoring, equipping and empowering people for ministry. This past summer I taught the Lynn Anderson 12 weeks series on topic of Spiritual Leadership. Teachers always wonder if that taught was caught. It is obvious students internalized the vision.

Most of the congregation saw Glenn in the role of a preacher. I, as well as the two

Life, nor angels, nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Rom. 8:35-39

When you accept Jesus and cast your fears and cares upon Him you are letting Him help slay the giants of fear in your life!

elders here the weekend he visited, too observed him largely in that light. Members of the search committee, Mark Borsheim, Chynna Freshour, Robert Frisk, Kim McIntire, Sharon Nirk, Cameron Sims, and Scott Rouse, were seeing Glenn in different settings as he related to youth and parents of youth. The perceptions are quite different. Two very unfortunate occurrences took place. I need to take responsibility for being absent at a critical time which didn't allow for processing within the committee. A statement was made in a quick stand up meeting of committee and elders following the Sunday morning worship that we would think about, pray about and wait till Ivan returned.

The second situation is most understandable. I wish to liken it to a sporting event. Often the voices of the cheering crowd drown out the rational and logical. And, we tend to hear that which we wish to hear. In track events participants in anticipation and emotions of the moment " jump the gun". This is what happened as the elders in good faith offered the position to Glenn Tunick. In hind sight all would concur that our processing meeting Wednesday should have been done before the position offer was made.

Lamont Petersen, Ralph Crump, and I spoke to Glenn Thursday at which time we rescinded the offer. We apologized to Glenn and his family, will apologize to his in-laws, and certainly we apologize to the congregation for the confusion and hurt that has come about from our flawed processing. Ivan Archer, Youth and Family Minister Search Committee Chair.

Remember to Keep the Faith!
By Dan Dupey

Do you remember the time that something did not go so well at school? A time when you had thought you had accomplished what was expected as a child or young adult, but it completely fell apart? Who was there for you? Who jumped in to comfort you? Who helped ease the pain? Was it your mother? A close friend? A comforting dad or a Christian brother? Possibly this was early in your Christian life, or perhaps as a mature Christian. More often than not, it has been many of the above times in your life. We often participate, as CCS staff, in this vital role as Christian teachers.

From the time that we were young classmates in school until the time of the maturing Christian, we have had times when our valleys in Life, our walk with Christ, our friendship relationships, our marriage, our job relationships, as well as our Christian service suffer because of our weaknesses.

We, as His (God's people, His army, His sheep, His servants) workers and counselors until we face that hope that is prepared for us, will confront issues of weakness. We must remember, during these times to LEAN on Him. To focus on Christ and what He did is to be REASSURED! It is a comfort and a peace that will bring joy and happiness to warm our hearts.

Hosea says, "Come and let us Return to our Lord!" Hosea 6:1 Remember that our faith is for a LIFETIME! Lean on it. Micah says that we should walk HUMBLY with God. As we travel down this lonely road we have a friend who WALKS with us! Let us not forget that. The obvious sometimes becomes forgotten IF we do NOT practice it. We still, CCS staff, enjoy watching the "growth" of our students as it lights up our day. I say that with some caution as "growth" comes in many ways. Some grow more quickly academically, while others may grow by showing great humility in emulating Jesus by helping a friend or leading a profound prayer!

Serving continues to be a joy! And, yes we continue to serve, teach, and encourage from "down below", the CCS mission school of Dalton gardens. Remember our Blessings! Pray for the school and contact us if you feel you can fulfill a need!

The Reeves Family Update
Greetings from the Reeves household. This has been a week of much thankfulness and much sorrow for us. We are thankful for the way God provided just the end of this last week all of the money that we needed to purchase a new vehicle. Thank you so much for all of your prayers and your giving hearts. Our whole team has been saddened this week by the loss of the Miller's baby in Andrea's fourth month of pregnancy. We would appreciate your prayers for physical and emotional healing for the Miller family and the loss of their baby. At the same time, we are thankful for fellow Kara missionaries, the Aldermans, who were able to transport the Millers so quickly in their plane down to the Baptist hospital in the southern part of the country, and for Andrea's health.

Please pray with us for the Millers as they grieve this loss and for us and our teammates as we grieve with them. Please also pray for the Millers' vehicle to be fixed soon so that that stress on their family can be relieved quickly. We love all of you and covet, as always, your prayers for the Kabiye Christians and the spreading of God's kingdom in Kabiyeland. The Kabiye team is currently working with 16 churches and 4 teaching points throughout Kabiyeland. May God bless you this week!
