Slaying Giants in Your Life
By Ralph Crump

Part 5: Defeating the Giant of Fear

Unnatural fear is one of those giants that raises it’s head from time to time and challenges us.

David was a fugitive, fearful for his life because of King Saul’s jealousy. After killing Goliath Saul wanted to kill David so David hides in a cave. “David was banished from the presence of Achish and he went down into the cave of Adullum” while he hid in that cave, David penned Psalm 34. Man does this Psalm have creditability! He had been abandoned by his friends as well as his enemies. He was frustrated, discouraged, and scared to death.

I don’t know what cave you’re holed up in, but sooner or later we all get to the cave don’t we? So David wants to help wants to help us get a foothold in walking through our fears and finding God’s peace with each step. Observe David’s four giant steps for facing fear.

  1. Acknowledge the Reliability of Your God. When we find ourselves in the cave of fear or when that free-floating anxiety descends upon lives, the first thing we need to do is acknowledge the reliability of our God saying, “Lord, I know you are worthy of my complete trust” verses 1-3. David dealt with his fear by offering praise and worship to God. The adversary of our souls loves to get our attention focused on ourselves and not on the resources of our God.
  2. Admit the reality of your fears. Most of us know God is trustworthy, but the next step could cause us to trip a bit. David points out in the beginning of Psalm 34 we have to admit the reality of our fears. David explains in poetic form that part of the process of dealing with fear is the willingness to acknowledge and admit the fear is there.

To acknowledge we all have fears is good. To seek a solution to our fears is better. Next week we will see how to pay the price of getting rid of most fears. To be continued.

SHEPHERD’S CORNER

One of the issues that confront the church is how to be good stewards. Is this issue only dealing with money or is this also a command on other issues, i.e. how you threat material possessions. It has been noted recently that some people like to place their feet (shoes) on the pew in front of them. It is especially harmful if the feet are placed on the bookracks because these are only held on by two small screws. The congregation has spent nearly $30,000 on recovering and reconditioning the pews and it is important that we take good care of them, as well as the rest of the building. Other issues include spilling beverages on the carpet and banging items against newly painted surfaces. We do not you to feel that you cannot use the building, but we would like the building to be a place you feel comfortable in inviting your friends, neighbors and family to this facility. The elders hope that you will be considerate of these issues and ask others to remove their feet or be careful with anything that will destroy any part of the building.  -For the Elders

WEEKLY BULLETIN

Tweeners Winter Retreat
This year’s retreat will be next weekend, Jan. 27th- Jan.29th at Camp Princes’ Pines. The cost will be $35 for families, $30 for couples and $20 for singles. This is to cover the meal cost and pay for the use of the campgrounds. If money is the only reason you will not come, please talk to Tim Frahm. We do have a little extra left over from other events and we can help out. If you have never been, it is time to come and try it out! We have so much fun and fellowship. Tim Frahm will be presenting the Bible lessons and services on Sunday morning. There will be lots of fun family and kid activities. For those of you who have not been before, be prepared. Bring sleeping bags and blankets to keep warm at night. Don’t forget plenty of snow gear and maybe bike helmets for the little ones on the sled. Be careful not to bring too much. It all has to be snowmobiled in or carried. Please, Please sign-up and pay your money as soon as possible! It is so hard to plan and buy food with no money and no idea of who is coming. The sign-up is on the kiosk. Any questions ask Tim and Alyssa Frahm.

Thank You!
Thanks to Kent Rude for plowing the parking lot. We appreciate you!

Teen Scene

Today the teens are in Spokane at the Winterfest youth rally hosted by the Northside church. We have been looking forward to this weekend for some time and are excited that it is finally here. I know that many of you remember Steve Maxwell, who used to be a member here. Steve is the key speaker at Winterfest this year. He currently resides in Portland and works with the "Pump" Church. Pump stands for Portland urban mission project. Steve has always had a strong following of young people and I'm glad we are able to see him this weekend. It is always exciting to see the change in a teen's life when they experience the Lord at a youth rally. Many times though, after returning home the spiritual "high" that they feel at the rally fades rather quickly and they end up right back where they began. We adults are not much different are we? The excitement created by something new soon fades and we too are right back where we started. This year at our own youth rally we are going to deal with this very issue. We are going to spend the entire weekend looking at practical ways to improve the personal relationship with God. That way we can maintain that "spiritual high" that the rally will bring. Adults, you are more than welcome to join us for a session or two. As I requested last week please be ready to help out with the rally if you are asked. Together we can make it a great event!  In Him, Scott

Little Kids can be Missionaries, Too
By Lynelle Dehlbom

Who do you envision a missionary is? Does your mind take you to a far away country? Do you imagine extraordinary Christian men and women teaching and preaching the gospel of Christ? Long lines of hungry souls waiting to be baptized in the local rivers? Yes! And more!

But what about the hungry souls that live around us here at home. There are so many here in our very own community that have never been told about Christ. Well, we have a missionary center right here at home with us. It is called the Coeur d’Alene Christian School. Each day these growing missionaries take the gospel and songs of worship and praise home with them to share with their circle of influence.

I have seen the lives of individuals and entire families changed because of the Gospel of Christ being taught each day. Because of Coeur d’Alene Christian School hearts have changed, lives have been dedicated and souls have been baptized into Christ.
Yes, kids can be missionaries, too. I have seen it happen over and over again. What an awesome experience it is to witness God’s hand through these precious children and their families.

So please ask yourself. What can you do to help extend the reach of the mission center, Coeur d’Alene Christian School?
