Slaying Giants In Your Life

A series by RALPH CRUMP

Slaying the Giants of Depression
Depression is one of those giants that raises its head from time to time and challenges us. Though the holidays bring joy and families together, for many there can be the problems of poor health, or long distance separation, or age problems, among other problems and stressors that can cause sadness or intermittent depression. To encourage us when depressed let us consider the following thoughts and scriptures.

  1. God is able to help us under any circumstances. See Eph. 3:20
  2. Let your requests be made known to God and be non anxious. See Phil. 4:6
  3. The righteous will not be forsaken. See Psa. 37:25
  4. The Lord heals the broken in heart and binds up their wounds. See Psa. 147:3
  5. We must pray and ask for help. See I Pet. 5:7
  6. Those who hope in the Lord will receive renewed strength. See Psa. 147:3
  7. “Be still and know God is God. See Psa. 46:10
  8. Jesus promises, “I am with you always” Mt. 28:20
  9. Put your hope in God when you are downcast. See Psa. 42 “Why are you downcast, O my soul? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my savior and my God”. Psa. 42:5-6
  10. Perfect peace is promised to those whose mind is focused on God and trusts in Him. Prov. 3:5
  11. Mercy is promised to those who fear God and trust in His righteousness to do His will. See Psa. 103:17-18
  12. Who shall separate us from the love of God under trials, tribulation or depression problems. See 8:35-39
  13. We may experience some tough situation, but we can avoid some deep depressions. 2 Cor. 4:16-18

WE DO NOT LOSE HEART. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an internal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

SHEPHERD’S CORNER

Great Promises to Those who Pray Since God created all things, He controls all things and can certainly keep all His promises. Here are some of the greatest of these, quoted without comment:
“My God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus” Phil. 4:19. “If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, you shall ask what you will, and it shall be done unto you” Jn. 15:17. “He is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us” Eph. 3:20. “And this is the confidence that we have in Him, that, if we ask any thing according to His will, He heareth us: And if we know that He heareth us: whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of Him” I John 5:14-15.
With such tremendous resources available, we are without excuse if we become discouraged. God can still accomplish great and mighty things on our behalf, as we meet his conditions, believe His promises, and call upon Him.  -The Elders

WEEKLY BULLETIN

New Year’s Eve Parties
This year I would like to have small New Year's Eve parties. The reason for this is so that you can invite your brothers & sisters in Christ and friends to your house to bring in the New Year.  This would be a great way to increase God’s kingdom.  If you would like to host a New Year's Eve party let George know at 772-6247 or georgewuest@dgchurch.org

Food Donations
We are collecting items to make Christmas dinner
baskets this year. If you are able to help out, we ask that you please have the food returned by Sunday, December 18, to the church office. Whatever you can do to help is greatly appreciated.
Thank you for your generosity and Merry Christmas!
-George

Thank You!
We just want to thank everyone so much who took an ornament from the tree!  We
hope you enjoyed buying the gifts and that it helped fill you with love and the Christmas Spirit!  All the gifts should be in by this Sunday, December 18th.  Please call if you still have a gift you wanted to drop by the church, Kristine 208-691-3718.  Merry Christmas!!!!!!
Library News!
“Motherhood, The Second Oldest Profession” by Erma Bombeck (she writes with warmth, humor & compassion) and “Right from Wrong” (help youth make right choices) by Josh McDowell are two books now in the lobby and can be checked out in the Library.

Note: Change of Date
Because of the busy time of year and schedule conflicts, we postponed the Teen Cross Country Ski Trip at the Fredricksons’ until later in February. The date will be posted later. A special thank you to Carole and Keith for their hospitality in offering their home.

What’s happening on the teen scene?

busy-busy-busy-busy-busy-busy-busy-busy

The holiday season is always a very busy time of the year for everyone, even for teens. We have so many things on the calendar in the next few weeks that I’m not sure where to start! First of all, I would like to invite any of you teens to stop by the office and hang out whenever I am there. My plan is to be in the office on Monday and Tuesday from 5:30-8:00 pm, and on Wednesday from 5:30 pm until class starts. We need to start planning for upcoming events like mid winter retreat and MIQVAH. Come by and say hello and talk for a while. Getting back to the calendar, we really do have several things coming soon. The first is this Friday night 12/23. There will be a Christmas party at Chynna’s house at 7 pm. See the flyer in your mailbox for more info. Then, on Tuesday 12/27, all teens are invited to a party at Ian and Josh Nelson’s home. See the note from Marci in this copy of Family news. The first weekend in the new year, 1/7 & 8/06, we will have Glen Tunick from Connecticut here to be considered for the full time youth minister position. More news about this will be shared later. On the weekend of 1/14 & 15 the Senior High guys will have their annual retreat and work party at Princes Pine. Winterfest 06 will be held the next weekend 1/20-22 at North side in Spokane. Moving on to February we will all be going to camp for mid winter retreat on 2/10-12. This retreat has always been a favorite for everyone.

Attention Teens:
You are invited to a snow fun day at the Nelsons’ house on Tuesday,
December 27th. Bring your snow clothes and snow toys and meet at the church building at 11:00 a.m. for car pooling. Call Marci Nelson (682-2811), Lynelle Dehlbom (762-1290) or Patty Welter (773-8673) so that we can plan for you to be there.

"Christmas Bells"
By Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

I heard the bells on Christmas Day
Their old, familiar carols play,
And wild and sweet
The words repeat
Of peace on earth, good-will to men!

And thought how, as the day had come,
The belfries of all Christendom
Had rolled along
The unbroken song
Of peace on earth, good-will to men!

Till, ringing, singing on its way
The world revolved from night to day,
A voice, a chime,
A chant sublime
Of peace on earth, good-will to men!
Then from each black, accursed mouth
The cannon thundered in the South,
And with the sound
The Carols drowned
Of peace on earth, good-will to men!
And in despair I bowed my head;
‘There is no peace on earth,’ I said;
‘For hate is strong,
And mocks the song
Of peace on earth, good-will to men!’

Then pealed the bells more loud and deep:
‘God is not dead; nor doth he sleep!
The Wrong shall fail,
The Right prevail,
With peace on earth, good-will to men!’
