Christian Counseling BY RALPH CRUMP

EIGHT PRINCIPLES OF BIBLICAL COUNSELING

Principle #6 - Flee Evil
This is a principle most people ignore in their personal lives. In this permissive world it seems allowable to dabble in or get close to things that are sinful. Rationalizing allows one to get the edge of a sinful or damaging activity and think that what he is doing is not “technically” wrong. But the old saying is true: If you play with fire you’re going to get burned.”

The Bible teaches that it is sinful to intentionally get close to a sinful activity. Paul used the words “Do not be deceived” when he talked about “evil companions” (I Corinthians 15:33). What he meant was, “Don’t kid yourself, don’t try to justify it or rationalize it. If you hang around evil people YOU WILL BE INFLUENCED TO DO EVIL!” It is for this reason Paul told the Thessalonians to “avoid the very appearance of evil” (I Thessalonians 5:22).

While the world permits closeness to that which is evil, the Bible demands we stay away from anything that appears to be evil. While the world desires to sit down and converse with evil, the Bible instructs us to run away from it as fast as we can (I Corinthians 6:18; 10:14; I Timothy 6:11; II Timothy 2:22).

Joseph of the Old Testament is often lifted as an example of the need to flee bad situations. When he was propositioned by Potiphar’s wife he gave us a three-step program to avoid sexual immorality. First, he gave a triple “no” by telling her that immorality was not permissible since she belonged to Potiphar, that immorality would be a great evil, and that it would be a great sin against God. Second, he made sure he avoided her, entering the house only with other servants. Third, when she attempted to force herself upon Joseph, he ran away as fast as he could. He was thrown in prison because of a false accusation, but Joseph did what was right.
In counseling it is easy to see when outside influences are hurting a counselee or invading a marriage. For example, a husband is flirting at work with a beautiful woman. He spends time with her, after work, just “talking,” while avoiding his responsibility at home. The wife exhibits jealousy and other feelings and behaviors that go with it. He says he is not doing anything “technically” wrong. What is the solution? He must immediately, not gradually nor waiting for next week, but immediately stop his relationship with this other woman. It does not matter if he feels he has done nothing wrong, the wife has been neglected by his activities. He must stay away from that which is damaging his marriage. Then, spending time and energies with each other, the husband and wife can work out any problem.

SHEPHERD’S CORNER

Isn't it wonderful to be alive now? Look around you. We have so many blessings. Where we live, and how we live. But the greatest of these come from our Lord. Jesus has provided our greatest blessing when he humbled himself to death on the cross (Phil. 2:6-8). When we respond to this with baptism we receive the forgiveness of sins, the gift of the Holy Spirit, (Acts 2:38-39), and an inheritance as his children (Romans 8:16-17).

This is a wonderful time to share and teach God’s love. We have been able to do this in our individual lives. Another way we can do this is to invite our friends to our LIFE group. This is an excellent way to establish a close bond, and to teach others.

Another wonderful part of this life is that we are able to continue to meet together to encourage one another to love and serve as a family. (Heb. 10:24-25)

C.C.S. SCHOOL NEWS
“THE MANY EXPERIENCES OF BEING IN GRADE K4”
By Lynelle Dehlbom

The four year old Kindergarten (K-4) has been having a lot of fun learning and growing in our class. We have learned all of our vowels, plus the consonants t, l, b, n, m, h. We are taking these letters and learning how they form words. We get pretty excited when we can read a word. We have learned up to the number 8 and are counting to 20.

Art has been popular this year. The kids are very creative. They are learning skills like cutting and following directions. We are finding the frustrations turn to excitement as a difficult skill is suddenly mastered. Each day brings something new disguised as something pretty.

It has been fun to watch the kids as they adjust to each other and form friendships. The year starts fresh, but with no one they know. But then they try relating to each other, problem solve, and cooperate. Finding themselves along the way. K4 kids learn a lot about how to get along in the world in this class. During which they experience fun and heartbreak.

This year in their life brings so much growth. I’m blessed to be a part of it.

10th Annual C.C.S. Craft Fair
December 3rd, 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.
If you are interested in helping with the C.C.S. craft fair or would like a booth, please contact Jamie Bradshaw at 772-7118. Applications to reserve a booth can be found on the kiosk. Please turn in your completed form to the school office or in Dan Dupey’s mail box.

Bake Sale Items Needed
The CCS craft fair is just two weeks away and we are planning for the PTO Bake Booth.  We are looking for donations of baked goods, including: cookies, cakes, pies, candy, brownies, jams and jellies, and anything else you might want to make for us!  The booth is always a popular stop for shoppers and we need lots of items to keep everyone happy.  We ran out of treats early last year and we don't want that to happen again!

Items may be dropped off at the school on Friday, December 2nd.  Call Kathy Taylor with any questions.  Thank you for your support.

Got Leaves?
Lynelle Dehlbom needs clean, bagged leaves for her garden. If you have any please give her a call at 762-1029.
