Eight Principles of Biblical Counseling
Principle #2: Humility
The most obvious attitude failure present in most people who come for
counseling is the lack of humility. Because they have been offended and
hurt, they may express contempt for the other, ridicule the other, or
demand rights as “victims” of another’s actions or neglect. In marital
counseling I often hear “He’s just so stupid,” “She doesn’t take care of
MY needs,” “She never…,” “He always…,” “If he had a brain…” And what
each of them wants is for me to make the other one do what is right. But
what each of them doesn’t want is for me to make them do what is right.
Most people feel they have contributed nothing to the problem and
therefore see no reason to do anything about the problem. It’s always
the other person.
It does not matter AT ALL if you are actually not part of the problem or
if you just think you are not part of the problem. If there is no
humility in your heart, you cannot resolve any problem. “Therefore, as
God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with
compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each
other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another.
Forgive as the Lord forgave you.” Col. 3:12-13
Jesus instructed his people about the “log and speck” philosophy
(Matthew 7). Even if the log is small, at least there must be energies
expended to find it and take care of it. No one is totally innocent.
Humility, at least, opens the doors of communication. Paul gave a
general principle in I Corinthians 10 when he said, “Let him who thinks
he stands take heed lest he fall.” James also talked about humility:
“Humble yourself in the presence of the Lord and He will lift you up”
(4:10).
Humility is not an admission of guilt. Rather, it is an admission of a
desire to work hard at the solution. For the wife who calls her husband
names in the presence of the counselor – stop it immediately. For the
husband who speaks selfishly about his needs – stop it immediately. When
the humble spirit opens the most tender part of the heart, resolution
can happen. Prov. 11:2

Calendar Update
We are in the process of making sure that the birthday/anniversary
calendar is up to date. Please stop by the sheets in the foyer and fill
in your birth date and anniversary. The sheets will be up only until
next Sunday so please stop by this week. Thank you!
Ladies’ Craft Day!
Bring your projects and join the fun! We are having a ladies craft day
on Friday, November 11th, from 3:00 p.m. to ??? in the small auditorium.
You should bring your craft supplies and a small craft supply item to
donate as a prize for lots of drawings. There will be craft BINGO,
snacks, fellowship and lots of fun! If you’re not a crafter, come and
learn something new. Join us for all or part of this fun-filled (and
productive) evening. All are welcome, so bring a friend!
15th Annual Winter Wonderland Rendezvous
The Church at West Yellowstone would like to extend an invitation for a
weekend of spiritual enrichment and fellowship during our 15th annual
Winter Wonderland Rendezvous to be held December 8-11, 2005. This year’s
theme is “Lessons from James,” with focus on what’s right with the
church. Come prepared to worship in the joy of fellowship with brothers
and sisters in Christ. More information and a schedule can be found on
the kiosk.
Shepherd’s Corner
This is an update on the refurbish of the building. On November 13, the
company that is recovering the pews will be here at 1:30 P.M. to
dismantle and load up the pews. We will need several of the men of the
congregation to assist the driver in this project. If you have not been
contacted, you can still help with the project. Go home after services,
eat a hearty meal, change into your work clothes and return to the
building. Cordless drills will be a great help. The pews will be gone
for two Sundays, so it has been suggested that you bring your best
comfortable chair (it must be portable) for services. Recognition will
be given to the most original chair or sitting device. Make this a fun
and enjoyable event. If you cannot bring a chair, we do have a limited
number of chairs in the building, but we do not guarantee the comfort of
these chairs. May God’s spirit shine down on us during this time. Have a
great week and hug someone close to you. -For the Elders
Cleaning out the Attic
For this coming week we are asking you to please come and get anything
that belongs to you or your ministry out of the attic (furnace room).
Please store your things temporally in some other place, so that we may
clean out the attic and start building shelves. We will notify you once
this task is done. If you have any questions call Georgette Rude at
772-9833. Thank you!
Keenage Banquet
The Teens of Dalton Gardens humbly request the presence of all Senior
Saints to attend a very old fashion banquet in your honor! Join us on
Saturday, November 19th, at 6:00 p.m. in the small auditorium.

C.C.S. School News
The students and staff at CCS are enjoying the fall in many ways. On
Friday we had “Hero” day and many of the students and staff came dressed
as anything from superheroes, to characters from books, to the real
heroes of the Bible. We were visited by Spiderman, Ms. Frizzle, Zorro,
Jesus, Esther, a police officer and a nurse in addition to many other
superhero and book characters. It was a lot of fun for the kids as well
as the teachers.
We are also continuing to collect coins for our Coins for Kids project.
This month we are trying to raise $250 to pay for facial reconstructive
surgery for a child from China with severe cleft palate. After one week
we have collected about $16. If you would like to donate to this
wonderful cause on behalf of the students, please contact the school
office.
The holiday season is upon us and we are selling tickets for A Festival
of Giving. This event takes place at the Silver Lake, Northtown and
Valley malls on Sunday, November 20th, from 7 pm - 10 pm. Tickets are $5
each with the full price benefiting the school. This is a fun evening of
shopping, special discounts and treats at the malls. Please see any
teacher or student from CCS or the CCS office to purchase your tickets.
Tell your friends and family about it and invite them to attend the
function with you! Thank you for your continued support and prayers for
the school and our mission to bring Christ to families all over Coeur
d’Alene.
Thanksgiving/Fall Decorations
The CCS PTO is looking for donations of fall themed decorations to add
to our supplies. If you have any silk fall colored leaves, tablecloths
or any similar items that you would like to donate, please give them to
Kathy Taylor or you can leave them in the office and they will be
delivered to the school. Thank you for your support.
