Eight Principles of Biblical Counseling
Principle #2: Confrontation

The Bible, for the most part, is confrontational. Don’t misunderstand this point. The Bible does not endorse berating, nit-picking, condemning, unloving, incessant bothering, or constantly criticizing one another. Nor does the Bible require one to place himself in danger for the sake of a confrontation. Whenever this point is mentioned, these are things some accuse me of promoting. Confrontation is not a bad word, but it is sometimes used wrong. Confrontation simply means to face a situation rather than ignoring it.

Most of the time when one has a problem with another, it is kept inside. This produces anger, frustration, long-term grudges, etc. This also produces other emotional problems like inability to cope, unreasonable fears, illogical behavior, etc. Nowhere does the Bible mention that problems are to be kept inside. Rather, it instructs us to face them, work on them, bring them to resolution, forgive, and grow (Matthew 18:15ff; Ephesians 4:24; Galatians 6:2; James 5:19-20)

When a person is offended by another, initially there is a grief as something or someone of value has been lost. Normal feelings of confusion, hurt, anger, denial, etc., are experienced. But left unresolved, these things can create a “prison” for the one who is grieving. If the person is angry at the offender, then whenever the offender is in sight the anger arises. The offender invades the mind causing turmoil. Certain places are avoided, and certain things are not talked about, and certain relationships are looked upon with suspicion. But in reality, the one who is hurting is doing this to himself. The offender may not even know he has done such a deed. The grieving one will remain in this self-inflicted prison until there is courage enough to confront.

Adherence to God’s guidelines will help the hurting to avoid the prison. The hurt does not immediately or magically go away. But working through it will be easier when confrontation is made, in a kind loving way. Galatians 6:1-2

C.C.S. School News
“The Coeur d’Alene Christian School student council exists to serve God, the school family, and the community.” That is the first line of the C.C.S. student council constitution. We are off to a great start this year! Our student council members this year include: President Joshua Nelson, Vice-president Dorian Kaiser, Treasurer Chloe Thompson, and Secretary Larissa Bishop. Each month they are joined by representatives from each class to discuss prayer requests, thank yous, and monthly calendar and to plan service projects and other activities. In the month of September, the council encouraged the student body to bring in new and gently used stuff animals to send off to child victims of the recent hurricanes. The students filled the vehicle of the program coordinator with their heartfelt donations. In the month of October, the student council decided to encourage the students to bring in items for the Magi Project. Each Tuesday in chapel, we have a collection called “Coins for Kids”. This is where we encourage the students to bring in an offering of loose change. Our treasurer keeps track of the money brought in, and the student council decides how the money will be spent. In the month of October, we raised $25.00 to help with shipping costs for the Magi Project. Our next goal is to raise $250.00 through “Coins for Kids” to donate to “The Smile Train”. This organization provides cleft surgery for poor children in developing countries. We invite you to help support this effort by dropping some of your change into the “Coins for Kids” can on the kiosk. The student council is also sponsoring a “Hero” dress up day on November fourth. We look forward to seeing which heroes show up at school that day. We are always looking for ways to serve, so if you have any needs, please let one of the C.C.S. staff know, and the C.C.S. student council will try to help.

Thanksgiving/Fall Decorations
The CCS PTO is looking for donations of fall themed decorations to add to our supplies. If you have any silk fall colored leaves, tablecloths or any similar items that you would like to donate, please give them to Kathy Taylor or you can leave them in the office and they will be delivered to the school. Thank you for your support.
