By Eight Principles of Biblical Counseling
Principle #1: Faith Many non Christians and some in the church ask this question. Humanism endorses the idea that man has the ability in himself to reason and choose a proper course of life and therefore the need for God is limited or void. This method of counseling largely focuses on bringing a client to a level where he can feel good about himself. The Bible, on the other hand, teaches that man does not have self-ability to choose a proper course of life. “Man’s steps are ordained by the Lord, how then can a man understand his way?” (Proverbs 20:24). “I know, O Lord, that a man’s way is not in himself; or is it in a man who walks to direct his steps” (Jeremiah 10:23). The biblical method of counseling focuses on bringing a client to practice proper biblical behavior which in turn brings satisfaction and happiness. So then the first absolute principle or attitude that must be in place is that of faith – faith in God’s Word to provide the proper guidance. This does not mean that all counselees must be Christians and active members of a local church. But they must have faith to trust in biblical guidance. If this faith is not present, counseling cannot begin. As a counselor you also must believe in the Bible’s ability to give counsel. If you do not believe this, you cannot counsel. Does the Bible have all the answers? “…His divine power has given us everything that pertains to life and godliness… (II Peter 1:3) “…but godliness is profitable for all things, since it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come.” (II Timothy 4:8) “I came that they may have life and have it more abundantly.” (John 10:10) These verses do not speak merely of our religious life on Sundays and eternal life after our physical death. The Bible was written to give us help for a long life on earth (Ephesians 6:1-3), a happy life on earth (John 15:11), and the ability to get through any crisis that comes our way (Philippians 4:11-13). Jesus did not qualify the “joyful” life by saying, “…unless you have personal problems, then you’re on your own.” The Bible has answers to EVERY problem man faces. We must believe in biblical counseling because it works! Faith in God’s Word is an absolute. (Romans 10:17)

School News We hear excitement among the sheep! We hear sadness within as well. We hear encouraging signs throughout the flock. We hear signs of uncertainty from some. We hear new ideas from some that clash with new ideas of others. We see routine change. We see Christ the same. It appears to be a time for Dalton Gardens where change is a priority. In other words, we have witnessed the positions of our main two ministries, preacher and Youth leader, vacate. Some have wanted these filled quickly to solidify the foundation that has been established in these areas. Many have been encouraged to know that the leaders have been diligently seeking men that will fill these positions who have experience, knowledge, and maturity in their walk with God! We are having changes, a different look, to the building itself. The sheep will have new carpeting through out, painting has been completed in some areas, new lighting, re-upholstered pews, new blinds, etc. The "Youth Center", "Bus Barn", "Sheep Activity Center" (I'm not sure what the final decision on the new name was) looks CLEANED! The trash is gone. The boxes and appliances have disappeared. The floor is visible! Again, many, many changes for the sheep. The school is caught in the middle of all of this. This IS a transition year for CCS. We are looking at a myriad of ideas to implement that would even enhance the Christian school more. The new staff for Dalton Gardens, the clean up, as well as the new upgrading will have a beneficial effect on CCS. To make these changes, especially in the time frame that many of us want, takes patience, longsuffering, and love. Remember, as Christians and encouragers, our Hope is in what God has placed before us. His Word and His promises are our anchors! He sent His Son that we might have eternal Life by obedience to Him. With so much happening around us it is easy for Satan to direct us off course. In Isaiah 41:10, God says that he will strengthen us, help us, and always be with us. It is especially important that during these great times of change and re-adjustment that we continue to show love and encouragement to each other. The sheep will continue to need each other now as we grow through our changes and focus on the road ahead that leads to eternity!
