Twelve Attitudes for Successful Search into God's Word - Part 6

XI. We are called to be servants in all relationships.
Whatever the situation, whatever the problem, the Christian is called to be a servant. The Christian is called to work at resolution. And we can either be a servant of righteousness and righteous living, or we can be slaves of evil and selfishness (Romans 6:16). In marriage, both husband and wife are called to be servants of one another (Ephesians 5:21; I Peter 3:1-7). In parenting we are called to serve the needs of the children (Ephesians 6:1-4). In our workplace, we are called to serve the needs and expectation of those over us (I Peter 2:18ff). With a servant attitude, we can resolve problems.

XII. Sometimes love must be tough.
It is admirable that we are sensitive to the feelings of others. But love means that the right thing must be done even if it seems to be unpleasant. If a child breaks the rules, he/she must be disciplined or punished according to the need of the moment. The Hebrew writer said that discipline 'for the moment seems not to be joyful but sorrowful; yet to those who have been trained by it, afterwards it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness' (12:11).

An example of how tough love must sometimes be used is in the area of domestic violence. When a husband beats his own wife, he is sick and in need of much help. One of the most loving things a woman can do for her husband at that time is to call the police and have him locked up. An abusive husband will not often seek help on his own. But the courts can force him into counseling designed to break the cycle of violence. If this is not done, violence will continue and will get worse. But love should cause her to do what is right even if it seems unpleasant to the husband.

These twelve attitudes are not presented as the only attitudes necessary for finding biblical answers to every problem in life. But if one will take these and implant them in his heart, he will be able to find all the answers that are needed. 'If any of you lacks wisdom let him ask of God who gives to all men, generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him' (Jas. 1:5).

Since we will be entertaining a special guest speaker (Greg & Carol Clark and 17 yr. old daughter, Laura) maximum participation is encouraged. A dessert social will follow the devotional.

Great Job!
Thank you to the LTC kids for gathering garbage at Fort Sherman City Park and for pulling weeds in the Prayer Garden the last Sunday. Just a reminder that today, the LTC kids will be meeting down in the kitchen following worship for lunch. We will be discussing ideas for radio minute messages, bulletin boards, and art work.

The Magi Project is a program that sends Christmas gifts to underprivileged children. You can make up your own box or you can turn in supplies and we will make up a box for you. Please have supplies turned in by October 23rd. Full complete boxes may be turned in by October 26th. Anyone interested in helping pack up and wrap the boxes can meet Wednesday, October 26th after Bible class in the small auditorium. For additional information see Alyssa Frahm.

*Volunteers Needed*
The Harvest Party is now less than two weeks away and we need help! We will need lots of volunteers to help run the games and man the snack table, people to bake cakes for the cakewalk and cookies for the snacks, folks to do face painting, and general crowd control! And candy, lots and lots of candy! There are sign up sheets at the table in the foyer, so please stop by and fill in where you are able. There is also a list of needed items for the games. We hope to have over 100 kids from the church and CCS to attend and that means lots of cooperation and effort is needed. If you have any questions, please see Kathy Taylor or Jennifer Rude.

*Kids' Harvest Party!*
There will be a Harvest Party for the CCS and church children (6th grade and younger) on Saturday, October 29th at 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. in the small auditorium. There will be games, prizes, treats and lots of fun! Costumes, especially Bible themed costumes, are encouraged, (but nothing scary). We are asking that each child that attends brings a can of food for the food pantry and that parents stay at the building during the party. See you there!

Dear women of Dalton Gardens Church of Christ:
I was so honored to minister among you this last week. It was an incredible experience for me because you all encouraged me so very much. Thank you so
much for the corsage, the wonderful card, the red cord and wheat stalks, the great meal, and everything else you did.

I'd like to give you the information that so many of you asked for. As I mentioned, I am in the process of rewriting The Mormon Mirage, but if you'd like to see an un-updated version online, you can find it (and some other writings of mine) at http://members.tripod.com/~Latayne (This address must be typed in exactly as above.)

Also, the Representational Resources web site (http://www.representationalresources.com) has a wealth of materials. If you want more information about the fact/representation relationship, you may read about it my dissertation (which is written on a layman's level) in the "Resources" drop-down menu.

If you are interested in study materials, may I suggest the "Introduction" Bible study under the Curriculum section, or the couples' Bible study, or book on the parables of Jesus, or communion resources (all the last are under "PDF Files" on the right hand menu.) These are all free to you for your use.

I also mentioned to several of you women that there is a DVD series that implements representational thought that you can order through www.hoperevealed.com.

I saw such yearning in you women to know the heart and mind of God. May He bless you for those desires. If you need my help, please e-mail me (Betty
Rude can give you the e-mail address.)

Your sister in Christ,
Latayne

'Enthusiasm' by Lynelle Dehlbom
There is one thing I can always count on having lots of in my class is enthusiasm. Lots of it. For nearly anything and everything. My students get excited about every new lesson taught each day. They become so eager they want to know what is next. They are in awe of the bug I caught in the hall or an object on my desk. A picture I bring with me. The puppet I use to get the message across. They even cheer when I teach them a new letter or number. Enthusiasm is what makes teaching the 4 year old kindergarten class so much fun. Enthusiasm is also contagious. One cannot help but smile at the funny things they say or do all in the name of enthusiasm.

What about us adults? It seems as we grow up and grow older our enthusiasm seems to fade. With it much of the fun and enjoyment of life. Enthusiasm stirs our hearts and gets us excited about things. Increases our enjoyment in the tasks around us. Spurs us on to change and action (see 2 Cor. 8:17, 9:2). It is a key ingredient in a quality of a life well led. Enthusiasm should also be a part of our relationship with Christ. If we are excited about the life through His grace that He has given us then our joy should be apparent. Not only should people be able to see it, but they should want to catch some of it. It should also make us eager to share the source of our enthusiasm: Christ. Little children can teach us so much. 'I tell you the truth, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.' -Mark 10:15
