Twelve Attitudes for Successful Search into
God's Word - Part 5
X. Relationship problems must be settled in
gentleness.
The Bible directs that even when one 'is caught
in a trespass, you who are spiritual restore such a one with the spirit
of gentleness' (Galatians 6:2). Confrontation must be immediate and direct.
But it must also be gentle.
A couple of years ago '20/ 20' did a story on a psychologist who had made
earth-shattering discoveries on 'predictors' of divorce. Based on his studies,
he found that one of the greatest predictors of divorce was evil language.
A wife would say in front of her husband to the counselor, 'He's an idiot!
He's lazy! He can't ever do anything right!' The counselor predicts by a
high percentage that this marriage will not last. A husband would say to
his wife in counseling, 'Well, that's real brilliant what you did. I would
think that you could use your brain for once...' Again the psychologist
predicts by high percentage that this marriage will not last. The end result
- both of these marriages did in fact end in divorce. Well, duh! Resolution
cannot happen when one or both sides are demeaning and degrading.
In my own counseling experience, if I can get a couple to speak kindly to
one another they can resolve most problems. In fact, if you were to add
up all the problems and the excess baggage that one couple brings into the
first counseling session, I would say that almost half of the problems stop
when the couple simply begins to speak with respect towards one another.

Dalton Gardens Church of
Christ
A Christ focused family committed to WINNING
the Lost, MATURING the Saints, and KNITTING the Body together
in love.
Pray For One Another
Be sure to talk to the other members of your prayer trios this week to find
out what their special prayer needs are!' If you have not yet been assigned
a prayer trio and have not been contacted, please place a note to that effect
in the box of Katrina Swaim.' We want to make sure all of our members can
be a part of this exciting opportunity to support each other!
Secret Sisters Dinner
The Secret Sisters Revealing Dinner will be Saturday, October 15th, at 6:30
p.m. If you are currently involved in Secret Sisters, please bring a potluck
dish and meet in the kitchen for a fun time of sharing and laughter!' Remember
also to bring one last gift for your Secret Sister. Everyone will get a
chance to guess the identity of their Secret Sister, so if you feel like
being helpful, you could even attach a clue of some kind to your gift!'
New Secret Sisters will be selected in a few weeks.
College-Age Girls' Sleepover
The girls of the college-aged group are invited to the Swaim's for a girls-only
(sorry, Chris!) sleepover on Friday, October 21. We will begin at 6:30.
Please bring a snack, a couple of dollars for pizza, and any movies or games
you'd like to share!
Magi Project - Christmas Boxes For Kids
The Magi Project is a program that sends Christmas gifts to underprivileged
children. You can make up your own box or you can turn in supplies and we
will make up a box for you. Please have supplies turned in by October 23rd.
Full complete boxes may be turned in by October 26th. Anyone interested
in helping pack up and wrap the boxes can meet Wednesday, October 26th after
Bible class in the small auditorium. For additional information see Alyssa
Frahm.
Shepherd's Corner
Praise God from whom all blessings flow! It has been wonderful to see some
men of this congregation step forward and preach in the absence of a pulpit
minister. We are blessed to have so many men capable, by the leading of
the Holy Spirit, to bring us edifying sermons.
From the Search Committee: to date we have received over 30 applications
for our Pulpit Ministry position. The cut off date is October 15. The search
committee is busy reviewing applications and will be conducting interviews
soon. Please keep this process in your prayers.
- From The Elders
Laser Tag for the Tweeners
Mark your calendars now for Laser Tag on October 22nd. All Tweeners are
welcome, older children are welcome if you want to keep up with them. We

Frahms before the night of the event! Also, if you wish we will have dinner
at RED ROBIN, downtown (across from the downtown mall, not the Valley Mall)
This is optional, some will meet there for dinner and then head over to
Laser Quest. Please sign-up for the dinner so we know how much seating to
get. Be at RED ROBIN by 5:00 p.m. to eat . If you want to meet us at Laser
Quest, go to 202 W. 2nd St. and be there by 6:40 p.m. See Tim or Alyssa

C.C.S. School News
Teaching Kindergarten is like going to the grocery store. I go with a list
of all the things I need: milk, eggs, bread, cheese, apples. But somehow
when I come out there are always a few extra things in the cart:
Twinkies,
chips, Lucky Charms, gummy tarantulas. I get what I need, and what I (or
my shopping partners) wants is in the bag, too. Similarly, each morning
I start my day with a lesson plan: phonics, handwriting, numbers, social
studies, art, Bible. And yet by noon so much more has happened: a lesson
on sharing, stories about whose mom has gotten a speeding ticket, five year
olds trying to pronounce Thessalonians, surprising answers that I never
even thought of. So, here too, I get to all the things I need with a little
extra of what I want.
When I tell people how much I am enjoying teaching Kindergarten, they think
I must be kidding. They understand that it is challenging teaching five
year olds. And it is. At some moments my students think they are still three,
and the next moment they think they are fifteen. Some of my students are
beginning readers and write neater than I do, and some are just beginning
with their letters and sounds. But as a whole, my class is great. They are
sweet, enthusiastic, and ready to learn. Each one makes me smile everyday.
And just like at the store, the things on the list are good, but the extras
are what I truly enjoy the most.
Please continue to pray for CCS, our staff, students, and families. Thank
you all for your loving support of our ministry in teaching God's children.
May He bless you this week.
Love, Jen
