Twelve Attitudes for Successful Search into
God's Word - Part 4
VIII. We are directed to confront our problems.
Humanistic psychology often times will excuse irrational behavior by attesting
that the client is actually a victim of others. The solution then is to
validate their victimization, make them believe that none of this is their
fault, and then pursue ways in which the client can 'feel good' about themselves.
In this sense the personal problem is never resolved nor is the shattered
relationship with another mended. It bypasses responsibility and makes victimization
acceptable.
But God directs us to confront and resolve our problems. When this happens
not only are relationships stronger, but personal esteem is greater. Doing
what is right, what God wants, always makes one stronger (Matthew 5:23-24;
18:15-20).
IX. God directs us to solve our problems immediately.
There are many ways to rationalize inactivity. 'I didn't want to say anything
because I was afraid that it would hurt her feelings.' 'I didn't think it
was my place to tell.' 'I figured that if we just let things cool down that
we won't have to worry about the problem.' Inactivity, indeed, brings on
a temporary sense of relief. But problems do not get resolved by ignoring
them. And the longer it takes for one to have the courage to confront, the
more 'excess baggage' is brought into the resolution process. For example,
on Tuesday a brother in Christ offends me by a remark. I can't believe he
said it. So I stew over the matter. Unresolved on Wednesday I continue to
think poorly of my brother. I cannot concentrate at our Wednesday evening
Bible study because of him. Sunday is the same way. Finally, because it
seems like we aren't getting anywhere, I confront my brother seven days
later. So we talk about the incident. But I bring along with the problem
seven days of ill feelings. Anger and resentment are brought up over the
seven days that he made me feel this way. And even if he didn't know there
was a problem, all of a sudden he realizes seven days of resentment is being
dumped into his lap. The
original issue, no matter if it was a small thing or a serious situation,
it is now multiplied out of proportion because of inactivity.
There is great wisdom behind Paul's directive: 'do not let the sun go down
on your anger' (Eph. 4:26). If one has a problem with sexual temptation,
the solution is to 'flee immorality' (1 Cor. 6:18) rather that to gradually
let go. The Bible indicates that when we choose to dabble in evil, it will,
absolutely for sure, cause damage to us (1 Cor. 15:33). When problems arise
or temptations lure us we must confront them immediately. We must find God's
solution and employ it immediately. -

Spiritual Leadership
Recognition is given to participants who devoted 12 weeks, 2 hours each
Wednesday evening, plus numerous hours of homework to the course, 'They Smell
Like Sheep: Spiritual Leadership Training' by Dr. Lynn Anderson. Each one
invested significant time to reading and praying the Psalms. All participants
raised their awareness of spiritual leaders as to skills desired in people
servants. Leadership at any level serves best with a shared life of frequent
contacts, counseling, consoling, teaching, skill development, mentoring,
equipping, and empowering people for ministry. Elder participants were:
David & Linda Bruner, Ralph & Anna Crump, Larry & Jean Grow, Lamont &
Mary Petersen, Don & Betty Rude; Deacon participants were: Tim & Alyssa
Frahm, Paul & Katrina Swaim, Steve & Kathy Taylor; Involved participants
were: Lavina Dooley, Dan & Teri Dupey, Leeann Freshour, Scott & Karmen
Rouse, Arrty & Jennifer Rude. Kim McIntire provided child care and Ivan

Search Committee Communication
Our Youth and Family Minister search is at the stage of the elders soon
offering the position to Matt Peacock. Our committee felt he is talented
and creative, had prepared himself well for visit, and expressed a very'
mature and healthy view of ministry. Many of congregation expressed such
observations. Our teen representatives on committee, Chynna Freshour & Cameron
Sims, are very complimentary of both Matt and Megan. There is disappointment hearing
it is likely May before they move to Dalton Gardens. Looking at the
broad picture, most buy into the statement made by Mark Borsheim'- In
the perfect world we want Matt now; in the real world we will be well
served to wait a few additional months to secure a person of Matt's
potential. We want Matt - 'Does he want us?' is the question. -

Practice What You Teach
Some say, "Do as I say, not as I do." I say, "Do as it says in God's word
and follow only examples who model their life after Christ." I have
been challenged to speak out for truth and not sit back and listen to a
lie. I was inspired by an article in the Sower ("Creation or Evolution,
What's the Big Deal?") and called to action by another publication,
The (Scholastic) Instructor
(September 2005 Issue):
Evolution claims to address the scientific and fails because it is incomplete
and full of error. It fails again because it cannot address the "spirit".
There are no scientific methods, experiments, etc., that can explain the
"spirit". Yet, the spiritual world is in many ways like the physical world.
Jesus used many physical examples to teach about spiritual principles.
Planting, sowing, tending, weeding, watering, harvesting, and reaping work
not only for the farmer, but also for us in the spiritual realm. When people
subscribe to evolutionism, they are essentially removing themselves from
any type of moralistic anchor. Because evolution says we are here merely
by chance, there is no standard of truth from a source greater than man.
"The survival of the fittest" is an evolutionist term that permeates a
relative morality in our world. "If it feels good, do it." "Who are you
to judge me?" These attitudes are directly contradictory to the absolute
standards given by God concerning all areas of human behavior. Abandoning
a moral anchor leaves mankind adrift on a sea of speculation, emotional
coldness, and hardheartedness. The most significant problem with evolution
is that it takes mankind out of the Garden of Eden and thus nullifies our
need for a Redeemer. The world is slowly deteriorating, not evolving!
But we are not without hope... Praise God for sending Jesus!
The Bible is clear when it predicts that the day will come when men
will not put up with sound doctrine, but will turn away from truth and turn
to fables. Evolution is one of these fables. Creationism or evolutionism?
It really is a big deal! And so, I responded to the one sided argument
presented in the "Instructor" by writing a letter to the editors and gave
them a piece-of-mind from the finest scientist in all the world, the creator
of the universe, the one and only true God, as he has revealed himself in
his word.
Praise God for His Wonderful Creation!
In His service, Teri DuPey
