Twelve Attitudes for Successful Search into God’s Word - Part 3

VI. We must understand the biblical dynamic of feelings vs. actions.
The humanist model of counseling seems to elevate self over anything else. The main concern of a humanistic counselor is to build self-esteem in the client. But this has already be proven to be futile. The biblical model, on the other hand, promotes right actions over anything else. If one does what is right, right according to God’s Word, the result will be good esteem, confidence, and strength (Genesis 4:7).

When one searches God’s Word to find answers to problems, he/she will find actions, activities, and servanthood. If I have wronged a brother, I must take the first step towards reconciliation (Matthew 5:23-24). If a brother has offended me, I must take the first step towards reconciliation (Matthew 18:15ff). If my brother is struggling, I must go help him with his load (Galatians 6:2).

VII. We must understand what the will of God is.
There is much confusion on what exactly is the “Will of God.” Without going into a major theological discussion at this time, I believe that “The Will of God” is that I stand holy before him (Ephesians 1:3-4). Everything God has done for me was designed to make me holy, pure, sanctified. He sent His son to die for my sins. He wants me to walk in the light for continuing sin removal (I John 1:7). Everything He did for me, and everything I am expected to do for Him, is designed so that I might be holy before him.

God does not care how much money I make. I don’t think he cares if I am rich or if I am poor. I believe that what he cares about is am I standing holy before him. Whether I am rich or poor, I can “learn the secret of getting along” by standing holy before Him (Philippians 4:12). He certainly doesn’t want me to put my trust in riches (Matthew 6:19:21).

If we can understand His Will, we can understand what God expects out of us. He cares about holy living during all stages of life, during all the ups and downs.
Today, many people feel that if their situation could change, their lives would be easier, their problems would be solved, and their self-esteem would be stronger. What God wants is for us to do what is right in the situation in which we find ourselves. We must reconcile any problems at work or at school no matter if the other party is willing or not. In any and every situation that comes our way there is a way to make it better-God’s way. We must not wait for others to “straighten up” first.

Dalton Gardens Church of Christ

A Christ focused family committed to WINNING the Lost, MATURING the Saints, and KNITTING the Body together in love.

Expertise of Matt & Megan
Matt Peacock, currently serving with the Western Hills Church of Christ in Temple, Texas, has a wealth of youth ministry experience. While an intern, he started ministries such as REEL to REAL, a movie ministry followed by a Bible study that pertained to movie just seen. Too, he has led studies entitled Across a Wire, in depth study of Sermon on the Mount and Reflections, an intense look at book of James. His mission experiences to Mexico and Thailand allowed sharing of faith in different cultures. Retreats in central Texas and Arkansas have called upon his speaking and devotional skills to equip teens to live Christ-like lives.

Megan Towery is a Texas A&M senior with studies in outdoor education. During 2005 summer she served as head female counselor at a camp in Marble Falls, Texas, which caters to inner-city kids. She has a heart for ministry and is excited about the possibilities of their being able to do ministry together. Both believe there are ways to get youth and teens serious about their faith using fun creative methods. Megan is busy planning for their December 30th wedding in Irving, Texas.

How does one find the words to say thank you for all of your prayers, concern, cards, visits, calls and love, when words don’t seem adequate. Glory be to God the cancer appears to be contained to one area. I know it was God’s hand and your prayers. You are the dearest, most loving family we could ever have. Thank you. With All of our love,

Dear Friends of Open Arms Pregnancy Care Center,
Thank you so much for encouraging Open Arms PCC through your participation in our third annual Baby Bottle Boomerang.

We are still counting coins as bottles continue to trickle in! At this point your church family has contributed $201.31 to the fund. What a blessing!
Thanks to you, Open Arms is able to offer services free to those who may be facing an unplanned pregnancy, are seeking healing from a past abortion, or those needing parenting support and guidance.

Your generosity is making a difference in lives, some for eternity. Again , we sincerely thank you. May God bless you as you have blessed us.

C.C.S. School News
What is a "normal" week? This week I was talking to my son's preschool teacher about looking forward to getting into a normal schedule. What I meant was a week without meetings, subbing, conferences, evening appointments and the like. Then I realized--that IS normal. An /abnormal/ week would be one with none of those obligations, no fighting among the kids, no illness, no late nights of grading papers, with extra time to read a book for pleasure, extra money for a family night out or date night, a week of children saying "Yes, Mother" instead of shrieking wildly and running down the stairs with nothing but one sock and a pair of swim goggles on when asked to get into the shower. Now, THAT would be amazing.

I often find myself waiting for things "settle down" before setting a time for Bible study and prayer. The sad fact is, that things probably aren't going to settle down for me, not for another 16 years or so, anyway. And I am very sure that prayer and Bible study cannot wait that long. Nor should it. It is precisely at the time when life seems to be skidding out of control that we need our anchor set in the bedrock of God's love and faithfulness the most. The only way that is going to happen is by drawing near to God. I'm going to try to remember that the next time the bathroom is once again flooded during bath time, which should be any minute now...

Kids’ Harvest Party!
There will be a Harvest Party for the children (6th grade and younger) on Saturday, October 29th at 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. in the small auditorium. There will be games, prizes, treats and lots of fun!!!! Costumes, especially Bible themed costumes, are encouraged, (but nothing scary). Be watching for more details to come! Donations of candy and adult volunteers for this event would be greatly appreciated! There is a box in the foyer to drop off donated candy. See Kathy Taylor for more information.

Garden of Prayer Request
We are breaking it down to the simple. The amount of work is too much for just a few and we need EVERYONE’s assistance so that we may be able to get other areas done before winter. Look on the board for a small part of what you can do. It’s called ‘KEEPER OF’. Many thanks to those who already have a lot on their plate, but are helping anyway! We are only asking for 20 to 30 minutes a week and in some areas just per month.

Remember to keep praying for your Secret Prayer Sister!

Who’s coming to dinner?
A sign-up on the kiosk is for everyone interested in hosting or being a guest for dinner. Each month everyone’s names who have signed up will be randomly drawn from a hat. First draw will be host, and second draw will be the guest. This will be a time to get to know each other and enjoy each other’s company, drawing us closer in our church family. Names will start to be drawn the first or second week in July. Once your names are drawn, the host will be responsible to contact the guest to find an evening that is good for both parties. For more information contact Paula Morris 664-1046 or Kim Borsheim 772-0785.

Please Note....... If you feel you might have misplaced any of your dishes from past potlucks or events, please check on the brown counter going towards the kitchen. Thanks!

Please check the Garden of Prayer board
on the easel in the foyer. Your help is needed!

Secret Sisters!
Please remember to contact your secret sister at least once per month and pray for her much more often than that! Also, be sure to check the bulletin board at the bottom of the ramp for thank you notes from your sister. There are a lot of notes that have been hanging up for a while.

Child Care Services Provided For Ladies Fall Fellowship
This year we are providing child care services for our Ladies Fall Fellowship. In providing child care services, we are hoping that more mothers with young children will be able to attend who might otherwise not be able to do so. If there are any ladies who would like to make a contribution for the child care, please see Mary Petersen. Any amount would be appreciated.
