SHORT BY
STUFF  DAVE SHANER

26 years ago, My wife and I moved here somewhat unsure of what God had planned for us. I had met Mike Swaim while preaching for the Pullman church of Christ while he was completing his Masters degree at the University of Idaho. He and Shari moved back to Coeur d'Alene to find that this church had no preacher. He relayed my name to the elders, Russ Allen, Don Hampton, and Eldon Rude. They invited me to come up and we started a long-term relationship. It has been a thrill for Kathy and I to have served you over these years. I have lived over half of my life as your preacher. We had only been married 6 months when we came. You have helped us to raise 3 sons to serve the Lord.

Hundreds of people have been baptized. Many from the Dalton Gardens church have gone on to serve the Lord as preachers and youth ministers worldwide. Our hair is a little grayer (OK, a lot grayer), but changes happen. As a church we have experienced great change. I believe it is for the good. Many resist change, but if there is a better way to serve God according to his will, we need to not be afraid of it. Our society has changed. We must reach them in such a way that honors God in keeping with His Word and causes us to go after the lost on purpose. Remember nothing good happens accidentally. It requires work and a perceptive heart. The men of Issachar were noted because they "understood the times and knew what Israel should do." - I Chronicles 12:32. We have leaders who are like those men. They are your elders and they want to develop more of a shepherding motif. As the Hebrew writer encourages us, make their work so that they will not become discouraged (Hebrews 13:17).

One of the things that excites me are the number of people who are stepping up to the plate to help preach and teach. I don't know when your next preacher will be on board, but this is a great time for many people to gain some experience in speaking on behalf of God. It is an awesome responsibility, but our God will reward each of you for it.

Kathy and I could name all of you for some way that you have touched our lives. We want to especially thank our elders for their vision and hard work. They have kept me focused when it would have been easier to give up. Also Kim Howard, my secretary, has been a faithful coworker in the kingdom. She has always made coming to the office a pleasant experience.

As we move to Bellevue, we would appreciate your prayers. Our distance is not that great. I am sure that we will see each other many more times. You always have a place to stay when you come to the Seattle area. I am sure a Mariner game can be arranged. We love all of you very much.

Shepherd's Corner
Throughout history, from the beginning of the Church (Acts 2) until now, Christians have came and gone. Great men and women of faith have helped the Lords Church grow, and have gone to their reward. The Dalton congregation is no exception. We too have seen the Lord work through great MEN & WOMEN of FAITH in building a wonderful Church Family. This is Christ's Church, and we can all take comfort in knowing the Lord has great plans for His people here at Dalton. Until Jesus returns, much work remains and we challenge each member to get involved in sharing your faith and helping the Dalton Church Family be come all that God is calling us to be. - From The Elders

CCS 'Short Note' -Dan DuPey
Fall is around some corner not far away! The Educational process will continue once again as we begin our CCS Fall program. But really, we know that the insight many of our students have gained throughout this summer has matured them spiritually, as well as mentally. Fall is always a beautiful time of year. The trees show their magnificent colors as the weather becomes cooler. And, do not forget the Fair! Our Church Mission school begins once again the great task of educating our young people. We appreciate all the staff who are working towards this endeavor. We thank you so much for the great support you have always given CCS!

Scholarships are needed: There is NO better investment than Christian Education for a child! We are truly planting the seeds! Contact Betty Rude or Dan DuPey if you can help in this need.

What's in your closet?
The Coeur d'Alene Christian School is now excepting donations (only new items, please) for the 2006 school auction, 'A Knight of Nights' on April 7th. For more information see Georgette Rude.

Attention Ladies
Due to Carole Fredrikson's scheduled surgery for September 12th the ladies retreat in Spirit Lake has been canceled. Remember to keep Carole and Keith in your prayers during this time.
