SHORT  BY
STUFF   DAVE SHANER

Sometimes as the preacher, I get to hear comments about our church from visitors that others do not always get to hear. Some that I have heard just in the last two weeks include, 'This is the friendliest church that I have been to.', 'I can tell you spend a lot of time organizing your worship service.', 'I have been to a lot of churches, but I can feel a special spirit of love here.', 'Your worship service really encouraged me.', 'I love your singing. You don't need instruments.', 'I have read and heard about your church. I wish I had come before now.' One lady was impressed by all of our special contributions for our own members and said, 'I have never seen a church that cared so much for its members.' 'Your preacher is so good looking!' (OK, I got carried away.)

Why do I share these responses with you? One is that I want to reiterate what a wonderful body of Christians the Dalton Gardens church is. Secondly, we know that Satan is going to do what he can to disrupt unity. When you are on the inside, sometimes it is easier to focus on some of the troubles we all experience rather than the blessings. Human nature tends to focus on the 'momentary and light afflictions' more than the abundant, wonderful life we have in Christ. We can receive ten compliments and one criticism and we will remember the criticism. Perspective is important. And keeping our Christian outlook is essential for us to maintain our Christian witness to the world.

Jesus said it like this, 'In the world you will have tribulation, but be of good cheer. I have overcome the world.' The apostle Paul said it like this, 'Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us.' - Romans 5:3-5. James worded it like this, 'Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance.' - James 1:3.

Yes God is good and I have read the end of the book. And you know what? The people of God win no matter what it may appear at any given moment.

Perspective is important.

Have a Great Week!

Shepherd's Corner
Praise God for steadfast servants. Dave & Kathy Shaner came to the Dalton Church Family in May 1979, as almost newly weds. Twenty Six years and three wonderful sons later, God is calling them to a new work in Bellevue, Washington. Their last Sunday with us is August 28. Therefore CHURCH, we need to honor these wonderful servants of the Lord. Please plan to attend a church barbecue/potluck after services next Sunday as we gather to say farewell to the Shaners.
